Major Duties
Under general supervision, the Patrol Corporal primarily engages in campus patrols, criminal investigations, and specialized police functions. This role includes direct response to emergencies, providing guidance during incidents, and conducting community policing activities. The position also encompasses:
- Patrols the campus by vehicle, motorcycle, bicycle, or on foot for criminal activity and citizens in need of assistance.
- Responds to and provides medical assistance to injured and ill people on campus and at traffic accidents near or on campus.
- Provides guidance and direction to officers in the field.
- Determines if victims need special assistance; initiates appropriate incident or crime reports; conducts crime scene investigations, preserving evidence, confiscating contraband, and protecting recovered property.
- Conducts activities (or supervise the same) to create police/community partnerships, gaining confidence and building credibility with the campus community.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent and graduation from a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) academy; two or more years of active law enforcement experience.
- Peace Officers in this classification must be eligible to be a peace officer in the State of California; possess a valid POST Certificate of Eligibility or a POST Basic Certificate in good standing; possess a valid California driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Successful completion of a POST-certified Supervisory Training Course or the ability to qualify for and complete the course within two years of appointment; Field Training Officer School; completion of First Aid and CPR certification.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of current law enforcement methods and procedures; thorough knowledge of current criminal codes and laws; thorough knowledge of effective investigative techniques and procedures.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write clear and comprehensive reports.
- Ability to work independently and make sound judgments; ability to provide effective leadership and direction to field personnel during an assigned shift.
Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

- Classification: 8365 / Corporal
- The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $$ 8,869- $ 10,404 per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $7,056- $ 10,404 per month.
- HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Rotating shifts that include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
