Hiring Ranges:
Assistant: $6,678 - $7,346
Associate: $7,378 - $8,116
The ideal candidate:
- Strong background in land surveying, mapping, and drafting.
- Skilled in performing and supporting field survey operations with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to coordinate surveying and engineering activities across teams and projects.
- Working knowledge of surveying principles, practices, equipment, and applicable standards.
- Effective at interpreting plans, maps, legal descriptions, and technical survey data.
- Demonstrates sound technical judgment, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills when working with staff, contractors, agencies, and the public.
- Dependable, detail-oriented professional who can manage priorities and work effectively under general direction.

Qualifications
The minimum and preferred requirements are listed below. Education and Experience:
- Assistant Surveyor:
- MINIMUM: 30 semester or 45 quarter units from an accredited college with coursework in land surveying or mathematics through trigonometry or basic science and two (2) years of progressively responsible land surveying or land development experience; OR four (4) years of progressively responsible land surveying or land development experience; OR Bachelor’s degree from accredited college with major coursework in land surveying, civil engineering, or related field.
- PREFERRED:In addition to the minimum, additional upper division coursework, from an accredited college with major coursework in land surveying, civil engineering or related field and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in property surveying and/or land development.
- MINIMUM: 30 semester or 45 quarter units from an accredited college with coursework in land surveying or mathematics through trigonometry or basic science and two (2) years of progressively responsible land surveying or land development experience; OR four (4) years of progressively responsible land surveying or land development experience; OR Bachelor’s degree from accredited college with major coursework in land surveying, civil engineering, or related field.
- Associate Surveyor:
- MINIMUM: 60 semester or 90 quarter units from an accredited college with major coursework in land surveying, civil engineering or related field and four (4) years of progressively responsible land surveying or land development experience; OR six (6) years of progressively responsible land surveying or land development experience; OR Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college with major coursework in land surveying or civil engineering or related field and two (2) years of progressively responsible land surveying or land development experience.
- PREFERRED:In addition to the minimum, Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college with major coursework in land surveying, civil engineering or related field and three (3) years progressively responsible land surveying experience in a public agency.
- MINIMUM: 60 semester or 90 quarter units from an accredited college with major coursework in land surveying, civil engineering or related field and four (4) years of progressively responsible land surveying or land development experience; OR six (6) years of progressively responsible land surveying or land development experience; OR Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college with major coursework in land surveying or civil engineering or related field and two (2) years of progressively responsible land surveying or land development experience.
- The ability to obtain a valid California Class C driver's license within ten (10) days of employment; maintain throughout employment.
- Assistant Surveyor: Possess or the ability to obtain a Land Surveyor in Training certificate as referenced in California Business and Professions Code Section 8741(a) and 8747(a) within one year of hire.
- Associate Surveyor: Possess a Professional Land Surveyor License (PLS) as referenced in California Business and Professions Code Section 8741(d) and 8747(b).
Special Requirements:
- Must successfully complete an extensive and thorough background investigation which includes Live Scan fingerprinting prior to hire.
- DMV printout prior to hire.
- Will be required to perform disaster service activities pursuant to Government Code 3100-3109.
