Tech Subject Matter Expert
This position is for an experienced Auxiliaries systems / equipment mechanic for the COMNAVAIRPAC Carrier Engineering Maintenance Assist Team (CEMAT). The experienced mechanic will be the subject matter expert for Galley and Refrigeration equipment and performcomprehensive equipment evaluations and repairs aboard CVNs, train ship personnel in proper assessment methods and technical documentation use, and verify installed systems to ensure accurate logistics records. This is a full-time position, located in San Diego, CA.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Considered subject matter expert in technical specialty.
- Conducting material condition assessments, troubleshooting and repairs on various equipment throughout the ship.
- Train Ships Force on proper assessment techniques.
- Train Ships Force on using technical documentation such as drawings and technical manuals.
- Validate equipment installed on CVNs to verify APL accuracy.
- May work directly with customer or customer representatives, attend meetings and deploy for special projects.
- Ability to manage, oversee, schedule and assign tasks to one or more multiple jobs.
- Installs, operates, maintains, repairs and modifies equipment.
- Performs a variety of maintenance and technical support on products such as equipment, integrated systems and subsystems, and software at customer and/or field locations.
- Analyzes and evaluates products and related performance.
- Maintains effective customer communications and relations.
- May provide onsite training of customer support personnel.
What You Must Have:
- High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 8 years of related experience, to include specific systems expertise.
- Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
- Experience generating Technical Work Documents (MP and FWP).
- Experience assessing, troubleshooting and repairing shipboard auxiliary equipment to include: Galley and sculleries, ship's Laundry, Water heaters, Pump alignment, HPAC compressors, waste pollution Equipment and refrigeration plants onboard CVNs.
- Experience conducting pump alignments.
- Experience developing and executing work packages in support of government screened Automated Work Requests (AWRs).
- Experience identifying equipment deficiencies affecting AC&R, thaw and chill boxes.
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
- Have an EPA Refrigerant Tech Certification (Universal).
- Must have an active DoD SECRET level security clearance.
- Must have a current US passport.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain base/ship access.
Bonus Points:
- Prior US Navy Active-Duty experience with at least one tour onboard a CVN.
- Knowledge of the CEMAT organization.
- Experience working onboard CNAP aircraft carriers stateside and in Japan.
- Experience working side-by-side with Ships Force training sailors on proper system / equipment assessment, troubleshooting and repair techniques.
- Qualified as a Quality Control Inspector (QCI).
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs.
- Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces.
- Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels.
- May ride ships at sea for extended periods.
- May require wearing a respirator.
- Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
