- Respond to alarms and assist in the suppression of fires and perform rescue and removal of persons from harm.
- Connect and lay hose lines; operate nozzle and direct water stream onto fires; operate chemical fire extinguishers; operate and climb ladders; perform forcible entry when necessary; ventilate buildings.
- Clean up and perform salvage operations after fires.
- Assist in maintaining and caring for fire apparatus, equipment, fire station and grounds.
- Respond to emergency calls and administer first aid.

- Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
- Work and communicate effectively with people of various education and socioeconomic backgrounds by respecting beliefs, interpersonal styles and behaviors of both clients and co-workers.
- Operate contemporary office equipment inclusive of computer, keyboard, and all applicable electronic equipment.
- Operate equipment and assist in the suppression of fires, medical emergencies, and in the protection of life and property.
- Learn technical firefighting techniques and principles of hydraulics applied to fire suppression.
Requirement:
- Candidate must have a reliable, non-public form of transportation. Candidate will not work more than 1559 hours. Candidate may be scheduled at various stations within Tulare County.
- Possession of a valid California driver's license.
- Completion of Basic Firefighter training, supplemented with college fire science courses. State of California certified Firefighter I or higher level certification. Public Safety First Aid or higher level certification. Professional Rescuer CPR certification.
