This role provides software support as point-of-contact for problem-solving, and supports the design, development, and enhancement of our financial technology ecosystem. This role is responsible for translating accounting and finance requirements into system solutions, optimizing financial workflows, supporting system implementations, and driving process automation for enhanced accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. This position also provides leadership to the IT Business Systems Analyst peer position while also providing assistance and training to support the users of various Austin Energy systems. Austin Energy uses Maximo for work management and PowerPlan for fixed assets accounting & asset management.
Job Description:IT Business Systems Analyst Senior
Purpose:Under moderate supervision, this position researches, analyzes, and documents effective business applications and their requirements in support of business-oriented information technology implementations.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Partner with decision makers, system owners and end users to define business, financial and operations requirements and systems goals.
- Lead requirements gathering sessions to elicit requirements, specifications, business processes and recommendations related to potential IT solutions.
- Create more complex models, use cases, process flows, specifications, diagrams and charts to provide direction to developers, designers, and vendors.
- Develop statement of work for use in requests for proposals.
- Evaluate compatibility and interoperability of commercial off-the-shelf or in-house technology systems.
- Review and analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems and develop strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems.
- Perform cost-benefit and return-on-investment analyses to aid in making IT business decisions.
- Conduct research on software and hardware products and technology services to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts.
- Write and deliver reports, recommendations, or alternatives that address existing and potential trouble areas in IT applications across the organization.
- Coordinate and perform tests, including end-user reviews, for modified and new systems, training and other post-implementation support.

Minimum Qualifications:- Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to the job plus two (2) years of experience.
- Experience may substitute for education for up to (4) years.
Preferred Qualifications:- Experience with enterprise accounting, work/asset management systems, and utility‑related accounting (including fixed assets, inventory, and financial reporting).
- Skilled in system implementation life cycles: requirements gathering, testing (integration/UAT), deployment best practices, and post‑go‑live support.
- Strong understanding of accounting processes, internal controls, and compliance with regulatory and audit requirements.
- Experience as a system superuser or help desk resource, with the ability to troubleshoot data discrepancies and system errors.
- Able to develop system procedures, documentation, and training materials; effective trainer with strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Proficient in data and visualization tools (Excel, Power BI, SQL a plus) with a continuous improvement, problem‑solving mindset.
