    Position Description
    The Research Multimedia Journalist promotes and advances the TTUHSC brand as a member of the Communications & Marketing team and direct liaison to the Office of Research and Innovation. Reports to the Director of Media Relations. Works collaboratively with these teams to cultivate and produce engaging content that reinforces the institution's vision of creating a healthier future with access to quality care for every Texan. This includes the management and creation of internal and external communications in a variety of mediums and formats to connect with key constituencies across the university, members of the media and the public. This position plays a key role in elevating TTUHSC's research enterprise by creating clear, compelling stories that showcase faculty achievements and institutional impact. The Research Multimedia Journalist develops content for local, regional, national and international audiences to strengthen and expand the TTUHSC brand.

    Major/Essential Functions
    1. Story Development & Writing
    • Write and edit weekly feature articles, blogs and news stories on research discoveries and innovation initiatives
    • Serve as a copy editor and copywriter for the TTUHSC Media Relations team
    • Identify and pitch stories highlighting faculty, staff and student research accomplishments
    • Conduct interviews with researchers, clinicians, students and community partners to inform clear, authentic narratives that reflect their experiences and impact
    • Translate technical and scholarly content into accessible material for both general and specialized audiences
    • Develop research-focused feature stories for TTUHSC's magazine, Pulse
    • Prepare research and earned media reports
    2. Content Planning & Idea Generation
    • Track and maintain a repository of story ideas for team planning and review
    • Plan content calendars with team leads and coordinate interviews and outreach
    • Monitor research trends and emerging scientific areas to identify storytelling opportunities
    • Track news platforms regularly for the latest information on current issues and evolving topics with science and research news
    3. Media Relations & External Visibility
    • Support strategies to secure local, statewide and national media coverage for TTUHSC research experts
    • Draft press releases and messaging aligned with university priorities
    • Collaborate with regional counterparts to ensure regional research stories are showcased
    • Review and proof content for Office of Research and Innovation social media channels, including captions and graphic materials
    4. Cross-Campus & Internal Collaboration
    • Collaborate with the Offices of Research and Innovation, Communications & Marketing along with internal partners on integrated communication strategies
    • Align content with institutional priorities
    • Support major communication campaigns and the annual research report
    5. Project & Asset Coordination
    • Manage multiple story assignments and meet established deadlines
    • Coordinate multimedia assets needed for storytelling, including photography and/or video


    Required Qualifications
    Bachelor's degree in a related field plus three (3) years related experience; OR a combination of related education and/or experience equal to seven (7) years.
