JOB SUMMARYThe Paid Parking Administrative Assistant provides essential support to the City of San Marcos’ Paid Parking Program. This temporary, part-time position is responsible for reviewing parking citations, processing payments, updating customer records, and assisting residents and visitors with parking-related inquiries. The role requires strong customer service skills, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret and apply basic transportation codes and city ordinances.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Ensure the accuracy and validity of parking citation information and related records.
- Maintain up-to-date payment records by processing citation payments and updating account information.
- Manage residential parking permit processes, including review, issuance, and record maintenance.
- Maintain accurate documentation of permits, appeals, and correspondence to support consistent operations.
- Provide responsive and courteous service to the public through phone, email, and in-person interactions.
- Address customer concerns related to citations, permits, and parking regulations, ensuring clear communication and understanding.
- Explain parking policies and procedures in an accessible and professional manner.
- Support the citation appeal process and escalate complex or unresolved issues as appropriate.
- Apply working knowledge of City of San Marcos parking codes, ordinances, and related policies.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulations when reviewing citations, issuing permits, and supporting parking operations.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS & PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- High school diploma or equivalent
- One (1) year of administrative or customer service experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Some college coursework in public administration, business, or a related field
COMPETENCIES AND ENVIRONMENT KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Knowledge of effective written and verbal communication principles, with the skill to convey information clearly and the ability to tailor communication to different audiences.
- Skill in maintaining accuracy and organization in a detail-oriented work environment.
- Ability to learn and adapt to new systems, procedures, and technology quickly.
- Ability to work independently while operating effectively under general supervision.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS This position requires the ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally. Job is primarily standing and walking throughout the river parks system. Subject to standing, sitting, walking, vision, hearing and talking frequently; lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, kneeling, crouching, crawling, bending, twisting, climbing and balancing occasionally. Park Ambassadors shall be mentally, physically, and emotionally prepared to assume and competently perform all duties.
WORK ENVIRONMENT This position is based in a standard office environment and involves extended periods of computer and desk work. Occasional interaction with the public may occur at the front counter or over the phone. The role may require occasional lifting of office materials or walking to nearby facilities.
