    Overview

    The Utility Technician II - Wastewater Treatment is responsible for the maintenance and operation of the six (6) Wastewater Treatment Plants and the City's lift stations. The position is also responsible for the maintenance and operation of the wastewater collection lines. Employees must remain in compliance with TCEQ and other applicable laws and regulations while working within the scope of their position.

    Responsibilities

    • Performs intermediate to advanced level process control measurements, testing of DO, pH, and Residual Analysis meters, iar tests, sludge quality tests, aqueous and atmospheric sulfide levels

    • Assists in identifying maintenance requirements, developing preventative maintenance strategies and plans and performing root cause analysis of equipment failures; Makes recommendations on findings

    • Prepares purchasing and minor construction contracts in direct support of maintenance and operations; Exercises expert application of TCEQ regulations

    • Assumes command of control room in the absence of the lead operator; Directs the activation of remotely operated processes

    • Reviews water analysis results, recognizes MCL's and potentials to excee

    • Serves as a technical subject matter expert for SCADA, I&E and Maintenance teams

    • May be asked to perform other duties as assigned

    Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

    • Non - Exempt - Full-Time

    • Rotating 40-hour work week; must be available to work additional hours as needed. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

    • In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • High school/ GED

    • One (1) year of experience

    Licenses and Certifications

    Required

    • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

    Required within six (6) months of hire

    • TCEQ Class D Wastewater Treatment License

    Employment Testing

    Employment is contingent on passing any post-offer pre-employment screening as listed below:

    • Criminal Background Check: Yes

    • Motor Vehicle Record Check: Yes

    • Drug Screening: Yes

    • Physical Exam: Yes

    Basis of Rating

    A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
