    POSITION OVERVIEW

    Reporting Location : 1002 Washington Avenue
    Workdays & Hours : Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

    DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    Assists wail-in and telephone customers with information on permit applications, inspection requests, Information on changes and licensing and registration in a courteous manner. May function as a shift leader of customer service representatives. Answers all incoming calls to the section and provides information on permits or inspections in a timely and courteous manner or transfers to the appropriate party. Receives and records inspection request when IVR is down. Ensures timely retrieval of writing Q-Flow/Live Chat customers in English and /or Spanish. Updates ILMS (Integrated land Management System), inspection requests, results, inspector comments, permitting fees, license and registration fees. May balance daily sales of permits, receipts or licensing fees. Maintain all files and section records such as insurance, registration, correspondences and office updates. Perform other duties as assigned. Assist customers on live chat.

    WORKING CONDITIONS
    The position is physically comfortable with occasional periods of stooping, bending and/or light lifting of materials of up to 10 pounds, the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. There are no major sources of discomfort; i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions.

    This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier III Level.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
    Requires a high school diploma or a GED.

    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Two years of experience as a Permit Technician Aide or in customer service are required.

    An Associate degree may be substituted for the experience requirement.

    LICENSE REQUIREMENTS None

    PREFERENCES

    Preference may be given to applicants with proficiency in the following systems: Q-Flow and ILMS (Integrated Land Management System).

    Preference will also be given to applicants who are bilingual in Spanish.

    **Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**

    However, the department may administer a skills assessment evaluation.

    If yes, this position is subject to random drug testing and if a promotional position, candidate must pass an assignment drug test.

    SALARY INFORMATION Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.

    Pay Grade 15
