Job Summary Under direct supervision of the Aquatics Coordinator, assists with overseeing aquatics staff and the daily operations and maintenance of all City of Bryan pool facilities.
Essential Job Functions - Maintains pool water and equipment, back washing, vacuuming and chemical balance in accordance with health codes.
- Assists with the supervision of head lifeguards, program coordinators, lifeguards, swim instructors, and cashiers.
- Sets and administers staff schedule for all City of Bryan pools.
- Meets with staff to resolve disciplinary issues, evaluates and determines the enforcement of disciplinary guidelines, documents counseling sessions, and prepares related reports.
- Interviews and recommends hiring of aquatics staff.
- Observes and monitors staff, patrons, and program participants and responds to unsafe acts or conditions.
- Sets a good example for staff by demonstrating cleanliness, punctuality, professionalism, and sharing clean up responsibilities.
- Problem solves through situations and seeks assistance when necessary.
- Inspects pools and determines needs in regard to supplies needed, work requests and necessary purchases.
- Distributes chemicals and maintains computer-controlled water balancing system.
- Trains and supervises staff on pool operations, chemicals, and safety procedures.
- Assists supervisor as needed for “on call” duties and related emergencies.
- Inspects, maintains, and repairs facility and equipment as capable, or seek professional assistance for repairs; documents all inspections and work performed.
- Keeps supervisor well informed of pool maintenance needs including cleaning, chemical adjustments, and repairs.
- Maintains positive public relations with patrons, program parents/guardians and staff by providing excellent customer service and assistance; responds to various types of inquiries; facilitates the timely and effective resolution of patron and staff complaints.
- Assists supervisor with daily operations.
- Attends and completes all mandatory trainings and staff meetings.
- Conducts in-service training, CPR , and water safety training.
- Adheres to the policies, rules, regulations, and procedures of the City of Bryan and Parks and Recreation Department.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Responds regularly and promptly to work as scheduled.
Minimum Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree preferably in Parks & Recreation, Sports Management, Kinesiology, Physical Education, or a related field of study plus at least one (1) year of work experience in lifeguarding or similar aquatics experience; or an Associate’s degree with directly related coursework plus at least two (2) years of work experience in lifeguarding or similar aquatics experience; or a High School Diploma with directly related coursework plus four (4) years of work experience in lifeguarding or similar aquatics experience.
- Must possess some working knowledge and experience with swimming pool maintenance.
Equivalent combinations of related education, experience, certification, and training may be considered.
Licenses, Certifications & Special Requirements - Texas Class C driver’s license with good driving record as measured by the City’s evaluation procedures.
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor.
- Pool Operator and/or Aquatic Facility Operator Certification or ability to obtain within first three (3) months of employment.
