    TPWD MISSION

    To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION :

    Under the direction of the Park Superintendent and Lead Ranger, this position performs complex (journey-level) building maintenance and construction work including all phases in the daily operation and maintenance of park facilities, grounds and equipment for Lake Whitney State Park. Operates all types of equipment such as trucks, tractors, mowers, hand tools and power tools. Provides quality visitor services by issuing permits, collecting revenue, providing information. Serves as the Additional Duty Safety Officer (ADSO). Assists in enforcing park rules and regulations, performs resource management tasks and interprets the park's natural resources. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Comply with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.



    Qualifications:

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

    Education :

    Graduation from High School or GED.

    Experience :

    Three years of facility, equipment or grounds maintenance experience.

    Licensure :

    Applicant must possess a valid State driver's license at the time of hire.

    ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS :

    Experience :

    Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience, with a maximum substitution of two years.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

    Experience :

    Experience in customer service, outdoor education and/or public relations.

    Experience in implementing a safety program or SORM ADSO training.

    Experience working with volunteers.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

    Knowledge of general facility, equipment and grounds maintenance.

    Knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical, masonry, janitorial and mechanical maintenance and repair tasks.

    Knowledge of accounting/accountability of revenue collection.

    Skill in using MS Word, Excel and Outlook.

    Skill in effective verbal and written communication.

    Skill in using standard office equipment.

    Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers and work-related contacts.

    Skill in using hand and power tools, mowers, trimmers, chain saws, tractors, vehicles, generators and other mechanical equipment.

    Ability to accurately handle cash and account for revenue collected.

    Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.

    Ability to work as a member of a team.

    Ability to perform manual labor includes lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.

    Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.

    WORKING CONDITIONS :

    Required to work in a public park with overnight camping and day use.

    Required to work hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

    Required to respond to emergencies and on-call situations.

    Required to perform manual labor including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.

    Required to operate a state vehicle.

    Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays.

    Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures.

    Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
