POSITION PURPOSE / IMPORTANT APPLICATION INFORMATIONThe Intern II - Under general supervision of the Utilities Supervisor, the Intern II supports the Utilities and Engineering Division by assisting with data management, asset inventory, field data collection, and basic engineering-related project tasks. Work includes updating utility system records, supporting GIS and asset management workflows, assisting with condition assessments for water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure, and preparing reports and documentation. This is a safety sensitive position.
This internship is expected to last one year and may be extended based on organizational needs. The full salary range for this position is stated above. The starting range of pay is dependent on qualifications and experience of each individual candidate. The City of Westminster has a Multilingual Stipend Program to encourage and reward benefited employees who are conversationally fluent in languages other than English. Benefited employees have the opportunity to test their language proficiency skills and qualify for a bi-weekly stipend that will vary based on the employee’s level of proficiency and usage.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS/PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS Education, Experience, Skills, Formal Training, Licenses, and Certifications Required :- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a two-year or four-year college program
- Enrollment in a related field such as civil engineering, environmental science, geography/GIS, water/wastewater technology, data analytics, or a closely related discipline
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Valid driver’s license and safe driving record (for those approved to drive)
Preferred :- Coursework or experience related to engineering, utilities, water/wastewater systems, GIS, or asset management
- Experience with data entry, mapping, mobile data collection, or records management
- Familiarity with ArcGIS, GPS field tools, or asset management software
- Previous experience working in a municipal, utility, engineering, or field-based environment
Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience, which would provide required knowledge and skills, may be considered.
Physical Requirements This position requires a degree of physical stamina and strength, including the ability to:
- Occasionally sit while driving to work assignments and performing office tasks; frequently stand and constantly walk on uneven terrain in all weather conditions to safely complete assigned tasks
- Occasional squatting, twisting, climbing, and balancing to inspect assigned areas
- Frequent bending, kneeling, and reaching below shoulder to perform open space maintenance
- Frequent light/firm grasp to properly use tools and equipment; occasional fine manipulation use to perform office duties; constant handling to safely use machinery and light duty equipment
- Frequently see objects up close to perform office tasks and far away to observe activity for safety hazards or problems
- Occasional stepping up and/or down to enter and exit vehicles and climb ladders; constant actuate mechanism to safely operate light duty equipment and vehicles
- Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds from ground to waist to move material and supplies; constant carrying of up to 25 pounds at waist level to use weed clearing equipment; occasional carrying of up to 50 pounds
WORKING CONDITIONSWork is constantly performed indoors and outdoors with constant exposure to extreme temperatures. While performing the duties of this job, the employee works near moving mechanical parts and high-speed rotating equipment; work is performed in high and precarious places with exposure to wet or humid conditions, fumes, and/or airborne particles.
Required Materials and Equipment Operates light equipment such as hand and power tools, gas detectors, air compressors, air blowers, tripods, vacuums, mops, floor machines, brooms, and cleaning materials and agents. Depending on the project, may also utilize small tools such as hammers, shovels, saws, measuring tape, levels, drills, and power tools to complete assigned responsibilities.
