For more details, review the full job details and requirements below.The Animal Shelter Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the City’s animal shelter, ensuring efficient and effective management of shelter activities, staff, and public interactions. A significant portion of their time is spent maintaining accurate records, managing financial transactions, coordinating adoption and licensing processes, and supervising staff.
Key Responsibilities- Provides public support and explains animal control policies and laws, including licensing, adoption, and ordinances; manages social media for adoptable pets and updates on lost, stray, and found pets; organizes rabies and vaccination clinics, licensing drives, donation programs, and volunteer activities.
- Assists with shelter licensing and oversees inspections and audits for compliance; coordinates internal processes for shelter operations and personnel; maintains and reports on the animal database and records.
- Manages adoptions, claims, licensing, and other related transactions; handles cash processes including receiving and transferring funds; oversees shelter and administrative supplies and manages operational spending.
- Coaches, leads, and evaluates staff; handles complaints and implements corrective actions and changes to address concerns.
QualificationsExperience: Three years of customer service experience in a fast-paced multi-tasking environment is required. One or more years of experience working with animals and understanding of animal behavior and breeds is preferred along with familiarity with Chameleon Animal Shelter Software. Experience supervising is also preferred.
Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Licenses & Certifications: A valid driver’s license and favorable driving record are required.
Environmental or Physical Demands: The Animal Shelter Supervisor primarily works in office conditions in the animal shelter. This may include regular exposure to odors of animals and noises of impounded animals. Individuals may be exposed to bio-hazardous materials and waste, animals with contagious diseases, zoonotic diseases, parasites, and toxic chemicals. Exposure to aggressive animals and the potential for being bitten exists.
