    Public Works Director/City Engineer

    City of Grover Beach, California

Situated along the picturesque Central Coast of California, Grover Beach is home to 2.31 square miles of laid-back coastal charm and exciting outdoor activities like hiking, horseback and off-road riding, golfing and beach bonfires.  Located an hour north of Santa Barbara midway between the San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles, flanked by the Pacific Coast Highway and Highway 101, and served by Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner train, Grover Beach’s easy accessibility and mild Mediterranean climate, add to its appeal as a destination for visitors and an ideal location to live and work.

The City of Grover Beach is seeking a Public Works Director/City Engineer who is an innovative, solution-oriented engineering professional, capable of addressing today’s Public Works challenges, and leading and mentoring a strong team within both the engineering and maintenance divisions.  The Public Works Department is committed to delivering essential services and maintaining the city’s quality of life - including providing reliable water and wastewater services, caring for city parks and infrastructure, and ensuring that developments are completed successfully and in compliance with adopted standards.

Competitive candidates will possess the equivalent of five years of increasingly responsible experience in Public Works, engineering and/or utilities, including three years in a supervisory or management capacity, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, public or business administration or related field. A Master’s degree is desirable.  The successful candidate must possess a valid registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California or be able to obtain said license within 18 months of appointment as Director.

The salary range is $150,540 - $192,132, with an approved 3% increase effective July 1, 2026, and a competitive benefits package.

    Filing Deadline: April 10, 2026
