    Housing and Residential Engagement at Cal State Fullerton provides a safe, inclusive living environment for students that supports learning, personal growth, and community, empowering Titans to succeed both inside and outside the classroom. You will have the opportunity to develop leadership skills, attend educational, cultural, and social programs, and interact more closely with faculty and university staff members. Cal State Fullerton currently provides residence hall and apartment style living for approximately 2,000 students that is safe, clean, and very convenient. We seek an exceptional individual to join our Housing-Administration team as the Director, Residential Engagement (Administrator II). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to inclusivity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    The Director of Residential Engagement serves as a senior member of the Housing and Residential Engagement (HRE) leadership team and provides strategic direction for the Residential Engagement unit. Working collaboratively with an Associate Director, Assistant Directors, and Community Coordinators, the Director oversees student development and community-building initiatives within the residence halls, fostering an inclusive, immersive, and safe living-learning environment. This position is responsible for creating and implementing programs and services that enhance the residential experience for over 2,200 residents, supporting their well-being, academic success, and personal development. The Director is accountable for policy development and enforcement, staff supervision, budget oversight, program planning, student conduct and care administration, and crisis response. The Director also builds and sustains strong university partnerships to advance student success, retention, and belonging. Success in this role requires vision, strong leadership, administrative expertise, and a demonstrated commitment to cultivating supportive and equitable residential communities. Other duties as assigned.

    Essential Qualifications

    A master’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field. At least eight years of full-time experience in residential education and engagement, including prior live-in experience, on-call experience, crisis, and emergency response experience. Demonstrated expertise and experience in student development theory, student learning, and teaching college students. Strong supervisory experience with professional staff, including performance management and team development. Proven ability to manage crises, conflict resolution, and interpret and apply university policies. Exceptional organizational, planning, and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a complex organization. Experience with program development, assessment, budget management, and operational planning. Knowledge of residential curriculum, student well-being, and student success strategies. Proficiency with relevant technologies, including facilities, housing occupancy, residential engagement, and students conduct software applications and systems.

    A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Strategic and innovative leadership with the ability to articulate and implement a vision. Experience with residential learning community development and academic partnerships in alignment to university and system student success strategies. Serve on behavioral intervention and/or student care teams. Demonstrated success building collaborative, culturally responsive student engagement initiatives.

    License/Certifications

    A valid California driver’s license.

    This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) position under the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. CSAs are responsible for reporting allegations of Clery Act Crimes reported to them or that they witness. CSA training is required.
