    Fleet Mechanic I - Pay Range: $18.32 - $22.90/hr. | $38,109 - $47,636 annual compensation

    Fleet Mechanic II- Pay Range: $22.90 - $28.62/hr. | $47,632 - $59,539 annual compensation

    Fleet Mechanic I and II positions are available with the City of Fort Worth Property Management Department, Fleet Division. The Fleet Division plays a large part in providing support for all City departments serving our residents. The Fleet Division is the "glue" which keeps the city equipment and vehicles in a mechanically sound state and safe for all employees and residents. The Fleet Division seeks the best leaders to continue our tradition of being an award-winning fleet! Our continued success in the future will bring maximum value to the City of Fort Worth.

    Minimum Qualifications for Fleet Mechanic I:
    • High School Diploma/GED
    • No previous experience required
    • Possession of a valid driver's license required
    • Possession of, or ability to obtain mechanical hand tools of type and quantities sufficient to perform with efficiency all required repair duties
    • Must pass Drug Screen, Physical

    Minimum Qualifications for Fleet Mechanic II:
    • High School Diploma/GED with additional specialized training in automotive/heavy truck mechanical repair
    • Two (2) years' experience in heavy duty truck, trailer or construction equipment repair
    • Possession of a valid driver's license required
    • Must pass Drug Screen, Physical

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Preference may be given to candidates with higher levels of education, experience, and specialized certifications related to vacancy
    • Familiarity with Fleet Repair Management Software (such as FASTER)
    • Possession of (or the ability to obtain) mechanical hand tools in types and quantities sufficient to perform all required repair duties efficiently at the time of placement
    • Possession of a Valid Texas Class "B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL), or the ability to obtain one withing six months of employment
    • One (1) or more years of experience in an automotive service center, with knowledge of general automotive and equipment repair
    • Experience in field service repair and maintenance of heavy equipment
    • Current National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (NIASE/ASE) Certification(s) in Automobile or Heavy Truck
    • Knowledge of general computer usage

    The Fleet Mechanic I job responsibilities include:
    • Perform in service inspections on vehicles and equipment being added to the Fleet
    • Installation of aftermarket lighting, cameras, and other small accessories
    • Knowledge of repair principles, practices, and techniques for auto and a variety of equipment
    • Securing and prevent rubbing hoses and electrical harnesses on equipment
    • Knowledge and use of tools and fluids used in mechanical repair and servicing of vehicles and equipment
    • Methods and techniques for lubricating automobile and equipment parts
    • Systems and components of equipment and vehicles, including engine and mechanical operations

    The Fleet Mechanic II job responsibilities include:
    • Diagnosing and perform all types of maintenance and repairs
    • Evaluate and diagnose technical repair issues and provide repair methodology
    • Ability to repair safety related equipment and vehicles
    • Ability to repair heavy equipment, trailer, industrial mowing equipment, and off-road construction equipment in the field
    • Active drive in obtaining mechanical repair certifications and training
    • Dedication to complete customer service. Methods and techniques for lubricating automobile and equipment parts

    Working Conditions and Physical Demand:

    Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting; depending on assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, chemicals, oils and workspace restrictions.

    Heavy Work - Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.

    Medical Program

    The City offers two plan options through Meritain Health, an Aetna company.

    The Health Center Plan – Offers employees and their family’s

Employees can visit any one of the three City of Fort Worth Employee Health Centers and receive guaranteed same or next day appointments for sick visits. Also, services are available at any one of the five satellite locations that serves employees across the city.

    The Consumer Choice Plan – Is offered to employees at no cost or low monthly premiums to cover eligible dependents and provides the financial benefits of a Health Savings Account (HSA).

    • Preventative services are covered at 100% on both plans.
    • Prescription Drug coverage including mail order pharmacy are also included.

    Vacation

    Eligible for 3 weeks of vacation: After successful completion of probationary period (usually
    6 months), employees may take time off for rest, relaxation, vacation, illness, religious observances, and personal business.

    Holidays

    Available on the first day of employment, the city provides employees with paid holidays, including two personal holidays.

    Wellness Program

    The city’s Healthy Challenge Wellness Program rewards all full-time, benefit-eligible employees on the city’s health insurance. The Healthy Challenge Program utilizes a points system. Participants may earn points throughout the year (Jan. 1-Dec. 15) for completing specific program activities and participants can redeem points at the end of the year for a cash reward. By participating, individuals can earn $150, $200 or $250 by accumulating program points.
