About the Role:Are you looking for an opportunity to lead a highly diverse team of Maintenance professionals and be a part of creating the strategic direction for a complex wastewater system? The Wastewater Treatment Division (WTD) in King County (KC) is hiring a leader for the South Plant mechanical team. This position will lead a team of treatment plant and offsite mechanical staff, oversee the preventative and corrective maintenance of the East Section facilities, and be an active member of the O&M Leadership team.
The responsibilities of this classification include supervising and directing the overall mechanical maintenance teams and program(s) for the South Plant and Brightwater wastewater treatment plant and East Section Offsite facilities. Maintenance programs include but are not limited to the repair, replacement, and preventative maintenance of industrial instrumentation equipment, electrical and instrumentation control systems. Incumbents supervise and direct the work of lead, skilled trades, semi-skilled trades, engineering, and technical support positions. Incumbents also assist the treatment plant manager in the development, implementation, and revision of short- and long-term goals and objectives for the plant’s operation and maintenance.
The primary function of this role is to lead, direct, and supervise the team members (maintenance mechanics, engine mechanics, offsite maintenance mechanics) assigned to the Mechanical Maintenance team for East Operations and Maintenance units.
As a Wastewater Maintenance Supervisor, Mechanical within the Operations and Maintenance team you are expected to be a “People Leader” to lead and develop your team to align with the County and WTD leaderships goals, expectations, standards, and initiatives. You will be a mentor and guide to those working within your team and those that work with your team.

Supervisory responsibilities include hiring, conducting performance evaluations, training, and recommending disciplinary actions.
- Supervise the review and coordination of preventative and maintenance practices including life cycle analysis of equipment and forecasting short- and long-term equipment needs, equipment replacement and repairs.
- Develop and implement the work unit’s operating and capital budgets; make recommendations on budget expenditures and monitor expenditures to ensure that budget is within established guidelines.
- Develop, implement, and maintain internal maintenance business policies and procedures for all equipment and systems at the treatment plant.
- Represent the section and/or division on capital replacement, expansion, and new facility projects.
- Act as the maintenance representative on capital improvement projects to provide input and direction on what the maintenance requirements will be for the designated project.
- Provide technical expertise on maintenance related issues that arise during the development, implementation, and start-up of assigned projects.
- Participate in the planning, development, and implementation of systems and/or processes to support the maintenance program at the treatment plant.
- Participate as a member of the section or division management team and act as the section or division management representative on internal and external committees.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, SkillsQualifications You Bring:- Advanced knowledge of and demonstrated experience in a skilled trade or craft occupation, or the equivalent combination of education and experience in a technical discipline such as engineering.
- Advanced knowledge of and demonstrated experience in life cycle analysis of industrial equipment, electrical and/or instrumentation systems or processes.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated experience in maintenance techniques and practices in an industrial environment.
- Strong knowledge of pumps, motors, HVAC systems, SCADA systems, and instrumentation.
- 3 or more years of experience in maintenance and repair of equipment used in wastewater treatment facilities
- At least 3 years’ experience in a lead capacity or supervisory role (preferred), overseeing industrial maintenance crews.
- Preventive maintenance programs and asset management systems.
- Ability to effectively supervise staff.
- Ability to develop and support in house training for assigned staff.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems.
- Communicate effectively and prepare reports.
- Ensure employee safety compliance within established guidelines and regulations.

It Would Be Great if You Also Bring:- Prior or current wastewater maintenance supervisor experience or 3 years of industrial maintenance lead responsibilities
- Demonstrable experience with Capital Project teams and other work groups, consultants, or contractors.
- Experience with CMMS systems and how to utilize extrapolated data.
- Practical and progressive experience in an industrial maintenance setting, craft, or trade
- Managing budgets and Capital project support
- Demonstrated experience in planning, scheduling, coordination and prioritization.
- Strong mechanical, machining, welding background and experience

- Work Details: Maintenance Supervisor works on-site at South Treatment Plant 1200 Monster Road S.W., Renton or Brightwater Treatment Plant 22505 WA-9, Woodinville, WA 98072 . On occasion you will need to work at other King County worksites including the collaboration space at King Street Center (201 S. Jackson St, Seattle, WA 98104).
- Requirement: Employees must reside in Washington State and be within a reasonable distance to King County worksites.
- Work Schedule: This position is exempt from the overtime provision of the Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA) and is not overtime eligible.
- Union Representation: This position is represented by the Teamster, Local 117. Pursuant to Western Conference of Teamsters Pension Trust $1.00 per hour from the base wage will be submitted to the Western Conference of Teamsters Pension Trust Fund.
- Physical Requirement: Must be able to physically move in and around county worksites such as treatment plants, regulator stations, pump stations to observe work and participate in work and project planning.
Must be able drive unencumbered to different locations throughout the service area as required. - Workplace Exposures: Potential exposure to wastewater treatment process areas, treatment chemicals, biological processes, sludges, waters. Potential exposure to high noise areas.
