    Description

    The Accountant I and Accountant II handles various financial operations of the entire County under the direction of the Assistant Finance Director and/or Finance Director. The person in these positions also assists with the annual audit that culminates into the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).

    HIRING SALARY RANGE: ACCOUNTANT I - $54,308 - $71,115 (Based on Education & Experience)

    HIRING SALARY RANGE: ACCOUNTANT II - $60,840 - $79,684 (Based on Education & Experience)

    Duties and Responsibilities

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Order of Essential Functions does not indicate importance of functions.)

    Perform various financial tasks to include reviewing and posting of cash receipts and journal entries.Perform various payroll duties to include quarterly federal and state reporting.Serve as a backup to payroll staff in entering bi-weekly time sheets into the system, verifying time sheets from other departments, printing time sheets for disbursement, and researching payroll related issues or errors.Interacts with outside auditors to obtain and compile the information needed to expedite the annual audit process.Review bank statements, complete statistical tables and federal and state reports, all of which assist with the creation and publication of the annual comprehensive financial report (ACFR).Serve as backup to the accounts payable (AP) staff in reviewing AP batches, pulling checks for pickup and folding/mailing checks for payment.Perform weekly purchase card (P-Card) encumbrances for the County and reconciliations for the CFO, finance, and budget departments.Assist with the creation and printing of financial training materials.Assist the Fixed Assets Manager with the gathering of related invoices and system reports, to include some analysis and completion of asset related forms.Perform system testing when migrating to new software or upgrading existing software to a newer version.Keeps immediate supervisor and teammates up-to-date and always informed.Keeps work knowledge up to date by attending meetings, conferences, workshops, and training.Communicates and coordinates regularly with teammates to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities. Performs other duties or assumes other responsibilities as apparent or assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Accountant I requires an Associate’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field supplemented with at least five (5) years or more of directly related experience within the last 10 years.Accountant II requires Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or closely related field, supplemented with at least three (3) years or more of directly related experience within the last 10 years.Accounting experience, preferably within local government or similar.Experience working within various areas of finance (payroll, accounts payable, fixed assets, and general ledger), as well as preparing, interpreting, and analyzing accounting reports and records.Proficient in Microsoft Office, to include advanced Excel skills.Comprehensive knowledge of applicable County, State and Federal laws and regulations.Understanding/Comprehensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).Have excellent verbal and written communication skills utilizing technical and non-technical language.Possess proven organizational, planning, and presentation skills
