    Job Summary

    Do you enjoy working outdoors? Looking for variety in your day? If so, the City of Olathe may have a great opportunity for you.

    A Streetlight Maintenance Workerperforms a variety of labor and semi-skilled maintenance tasks, including operating equipment related totraffic signs, traffic signals, and streetlight maintenance. This position also includes routine maintenance responsibilities for assigned equipment. Work is performed under the supervision of theStreetlight Supervisor.

    We’re looking for someone who isteam-oriented, works well with others on a crew, can complete a variety of general labor tasks, and canfollow directions and safety procedures.

    Seasonal Employment Information

    Seasonal employees are hired for one season of the year to perform seasonal work (e.g., outdoor lifeguard, mowing). Seasonal employees may not work more thansix (6) months within a twelve (12)-month period.

    Seasonal employees receive legally required benefits (e.g.,Social Security and workers’ compensation), but arenot eligiblefor the City of Olathe’s health plan or other benefits, includingKPERS.

    Pay, Schedule, and Job Length
    • Pay:$19.75/hour
    • Schedule:40 hours per week
    • Job Length:Up to six months


    Key Responsibilities
    • Operate various equipment and vehicles.
    • Use tools, work aids, and equipment needed to complete assigned work.
    • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
    • Follow safety procedures, practices, and regulations.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.


    Pre-Employment Screening Requirements

    Candidates must successfully pass pre-employment screenings, including:
    • Criminal background check
    • Driving record review
    • Physical exam
    • Drug screen

    Qualifications
    • Experience:No experience required.
    • Education:High school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance is required.
    • Licenses & Certifications:Valid driver’s license and a favorable driving record are required.


    Environmental & Physical Demands

    Work is primarily performed outdoors and includes exposure to weather conditions such asextreme heat, cold, rain, and wind. Employees may also be exposed totraffic noise, dust, and fumesfrom vehicles and/or machinery, depending on the worksite.

    This position involves moderate physical demands, including the ability tolift and move items up to fifty (50) pounds. The work may requirebending, kneeling, and reaching, and may involve exposure tohazardous tools and equipment. Employees may occasionally work inlow-light conditionsor experienceglare from headlights.
