    Overview

    The objective of this position is to assist in the management of the City's developed and undeveloped parkland, facilities, right of way, and beaches. This position is to oversee multiple functions of beach maintenance and ensure that standards, in accordance with the Parks Master Plan, are met. Tech III's requires technical knowledge and understanding of beach maintenance functions to include Turtle Patrol regulations, sand management, sanitation practices, equipment functions and landscape practices. This position requires a strong ability to coach, train and evaluate employees.

    Responsibilities

    • Collects litter/large debris/animal carcasses/tree limbs from parkland, facilities, right of way and beaches

    • Sanitizes restrooms and restocks toilet paper, soap, and hand towels

    • Troubleshoots/reports any clogged toilets, urinals and drains

    • Reports concerns regarding sanitation assignments and oversees functions of sanitation services

    • Operates a zero-turn riding mower, standup mower, push mower, and tractors in different terrains/slopes

    • Troubleshoots/reports concerns regarding mowing assignments and oversees functions of mowing services

    • Operates gas/electric outdoor power equipment to assist subordinates with assigned maintenance functions and troubleshoots mechanical functions of power equipment

    • Operates a work truck and trailer forward and reverse, abiding by City and Department rules and regulations

    • Negotiates turns in a safe manner, without damaging trailer and/or tow hitch

    • Oversees and participates in the removal of seasonal accumulations of seaweed with the use of motor grader, frontend loader, dump trucks and/or trucks

    • Drives employee passenger vehicles, utility vehicles, and maintenance of equipment safely

    • Excavates land using shovels, augers, and backhoe

    • Installs new or transport plant life such as trees, shrubs, and flowers

    • Distributes compost and mulch by hand, hand tools, or powered equipment Assists with the design and assignment of work regarding landscape installation

    • Sets up and takes down portable tents, chairs, tables, podiums, banners/signage, trash barrels, scaffolding, gym mats, lifeguard stands

    • Removes graffiti using chemicals and/or pressure washer, apply paint to walls, ceilings, poles, playgrounds, meter boxes, and accessories

    • Supervises assigned work groups, schedules projects, and provides training in departmental policies and protocols to assigned staff

    • Creates scope of work for minor projects, coordinates, and reports any issues to Beach Operations Supervisor

    • Coordinates fleet repairs and replacement vehicles for work crews

    • Assists department leadership with goals and objectives, budgeting recommendations, and expenditure estimates

    • Submits requisitions for goods and commodities for assigned work groups

    Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

    • Non-Exempt - Full-Time - Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm

    • Must be available to work additional hours as needed

    • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

    • In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

    Minimum Qualifications

    • High School Diploma/GED

    • Five (5) years of experience

    Licenses and Certifications

    Required

    • Class B CDL Driver License

    Basis of Rating

    A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
