Job Description:Aviation - Occupational Health and Safety CoordinatorPurpose:Under minimal direction, this position applies knowledge of policies, rules, and regulations in the development, administration, implementation, and evaluation of the occupational health and safety program.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Develops and implements comprehensive safety and training programs to ensure adherence to safety practices and procedures.
- Establishes standards and procedures, and performs facility and job site inspections to ensure compliance with applicable Federal, State, and Local laws, rules, regulations, or departmental safety policies and procedures.
- Participates, as necessary, in the preparation and monitoring of budget and contracts/contractors, and in the implementation of the departmental budget; and recommends and justifies capital expenditures.
- Conducts accident and incident investigations to determine root causes, and develops plans to prevent recurrence by inspecting or reviewing areas, equipment, processes, and work activities for hazardous conditions.
- Provides advice and counsel to management and other employee groups on a broad range of occupational safety issues and decisions.
- Develops and conducts occupational safety training for various workgroups, including evaluation and modification of programs to meet Local, State, and Federal OSHA requirements.
- Coordinates occupational safety activities which may include conducting safety drills, inspections, investigations, or other safety program events.
- Directs and reviews the analysis of accident or injury data by identifying trends, creating related reports, and including financial impact in an effort to develop proposed solutions to problems and identify the needs for new or modified occupational safety programs.
- Researches occupational safety information to assure the best available methods and equipment are adopted to minimize the hazards in the work place

Minimum Qualifications:- Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in related field, plus four (4) years of experience in the assigned area of specialization.
- Experience may substitute for the education up to the maximum of four (4) years.
Licenses and Certifications Required:- Valid Texas Driver License.
- Licensing for specific disciplines may be required.
- Appropriate certifications as specified for the assignment.
Preferred Qualifications:- Commercial construction safety experience in large scale infrastructure
- OSHA 30 Hour Construction Certification or the ability to obtain within 6 month of employment
- OSHA 30 Authorized Construction Safety Training or the ability to obtain within 6 month of employment
- OSHA Trench and Excavation Safety Certification or the ability to obtain within 6 month of employment
- OSHA Permit Required Confined Space Certification or the ability to obtain within 6 month of employment
- Experience developing and conducting safety training
- Ability to fluently communicate in English and Spanish
Notes to Candidate:Position Overview:This position will help implement and oversee Austin Aviation’s insurance and construction contractor safety programs, as well as help develop and implement minimum safety program standards for Austin Aviation construction contractors. Key duties will include conducting construction site safety audits for compliance with program requirements and providing consultation, training, and technical guidance to contractors and project teams to reduce risks and prevent losses. This position will help support Austin-Bergstrom International Airport’s rolling owner-controlled insurance program for Austin Aviation (ROCIP AUS) which will include the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport’s Expansion and Redevelopment Program and large CIP construction projects. The position will be part of, and consult with, the ROCIP AUS Safety Team, as well as fellow Austin Aviation divisions, City departments, and construction contractors and project teams on various occupational health and safety (OH&S) efforts and ROCIP AUS program administration. This position will coordinate and help oversee onsite insurance carrier loss engineering visits and coordinate with Austin Aviation divisions to ensure timely response and corrective actions to ensure best practices and data-driven results. This role will also conduct and assist with accident and claims investigations, data gathering, consult with involved parties, and research occupational safety information to assure the best available methods and equipment are adopted to minimize hazards in the work place.
Assessment:A skills assessment will be required for this position.
Salary Range:
$32.96 -41.20
Driver’s Requirement:This position must travel between various locations as part of the regular job duties and the individual will be required to drive a City vehicle. Position will also be required to drive on the AOA.
This position requires a Valid Texas Class C Driver License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) requisite . To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months. Job Offer is contingent on having a driving record that meets the City’s Driver Record Evaluation Standards.
