    We are recruiting to fill Community Center Specialist II positions in the Community and Senior Service Centers.

    The Community Center Specialist II position works on-site Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at one of our 13 listed locations based on staffing needs:

    THE OPPORTUNITY
    The team member we are searching for should be passionate about serving communities and older adults, skilled in leading and supporting staff, and dedicated to fostering trust and collaboration with diverse partners. They should be well organized, communicative, and experienced in coordinating community-based programs while maintaining accurate documentation and effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

    DEFINITION
    Acts as assistant to an administrative head of a diversified multi-program community service or senior center.

    CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS

    Positions allocable to this class are found in the Department of Aging & Disabilities and receive technical direction from a Community Center Director. These positions serve as lead staff in a community service or senior center and have responsibility for coordinating the work of community center and auxiliary staff who provide direct and outreach human services to a large client population in a specific geographic area. Incumbents must possess a thorough knowledge of community needs, resources and problems. Incumbents must also be aware of private community agencies interested in specialized activities and must be able to resolve community problems.

    Essential Job Functions

    Assists in the development, implementation and evaluation of community and senior services.

    Leads staff (e.g., Community Health Workers, Neighborhood Workers, auxiliary staff) by ensuring staff receive the support, guidance, and training needed to effectively perform their duties.

    Supports community-oriented efforts by addressing community needs, gaining its trust and promoting a successful delivery of services that benefits the community.

    Interacts with a variety of individuals (e.g., management, community-based organizations, community members, governmental agencies, representatives of the Board of Supervisors and County departments).

    Prepares and maintains various documents and records (e.g., referrals, recommendations, correspondence, calendars, reports, forms, RQN and memoranda; training materials, presentations, confidential files) and communicate pertinent information to relevant parties (e.g., management, community partners, community members, government agencies and County departments).

    ENDORSEMENT OF COUNTY EMPLOYEE QUALIFICATIONS

    Requirements

    SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

    Two (2) years of experience in a responsible administrative*, supervisory**, and consultative*** or staff capacity**** in the field of human services such as employment, social welfare, or community services. The required experience must have included active participation in identifying community problems and analyzing and making recommendations for their solution.

    Special Requirement Information

    *Administrative is defined as work involving the application of a substantial body of knowledge of principles, concepts, and practices applicable to one or more fields of administration or management. While positions in this occupational group do not require specialized education, they demand the type of skills (analytical, research, writing, judgment) typically gained through a college-level education, or through progressively responsible experience.

    **Supervisory experience includes responsibility for planning, assigning and reviewing the work of staff, evaluating employee performance, participating in interviewing and selecting new staff, and performance management.

    ***Consultative experience includes advice and professional guidance by assessing community or administrative issues and offering informed solutions or recommendations to support effective program operations.

    ****Staff Capacity is defined as work involving assisting and supporting administration by doing research, analysis, and making recommendations to line managers on matters such as utilization of personnel; allocation of funds; workload and workload fluctuations; and programs and procedures for accomplishing work objectives.

    LICENSE
    A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

    PHYSICAL CLASS II
    Light - This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.
