The Community Development Agency is a busy, dynamic work environment seeking a part-time temporary Office Assistant II for our Administrative team which supports Agriculture, Building, Cannabis and Code Compliance, Environmental Health, Planning, and Public Works.

    This is a temporary position that works up to 960 hours per fiscal year based on department need and includes acrrual of sick leave.

    Typical duties in this role include:
    • Searching and compiling requested land use public records to distribute to customers
    • Scanning documents
    • Assisting at the front customer service counter to greet and direct customers, answer phones, process payments.
    • Retrieving and corresponding to requests from an online computer system
    • Other clerical support duties to the assist the agency

    Desired Skills:
    • Strong customer service
    • Understanding and carrying out verbal and written instructions
    • Organizing and maintaining accurate records and files
    • Maintaining attention to detail despite interruptions
    • Learning specialized processing, procedures and office support tasks related to the department to which assigned
    • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work
    • Using initiative and sound independent judgment within established guidelines
    • Operating standard office equipment including a desktop computer, multi-function copy machine, large document scanner, and centralized telephone equipment
    • Making accurate arithmetic calculations
    • Prioritizing work and coordinating several activities simultaneously

    Education and Experience Required

    Equivalent to completion of twelfth grade, with coursework or practical experience in typing.

    AND

    Two years of general clerical or office assistant experience at a level equivalent to Nevada County's classification of Office Assistant I.

    Sick Leave:

    Temporary County employees shall accrue at the rate of one (1) hour of sick leave for each thirty (30) hours worked. Temporary County employees can accrue a maximum of 80 hours of sick leave which may be carried over from one fiscal year to the next.

    Medical Benefits:

    Temporary employees whose assignments average 30 hours per week or more are eligible to enroll in County-sponsored medical benefits.

Rain in January typically averages ten inches per year and the highest elevations receive an annual average of 206 inches of snow.

    Scenic trails, alpine lakes, the Yuba River and the Sierra Nevada Mountains all support numerous recreation activities, including skiing, biking, hiking, fishing, kayaking, hunting and backpacking. With a calendar packed with street fairs, festivals, art exhibits, local theater and children’s activities, visitors and locals can experience small-town life without having to forgo indulgence in pleasures more typical of an urban setting.

    Nevada County is a creative hotspot in the Sierra Nevada, offering an array of experiences, including concerts, film festivals, street fairs, dance performances, poetry readings, studio tours and galleries. The county also has numerous venues for performing arts, many of which are historic settings. The arts have a large economic impact, which has become a vital component to life in Nevada County.
