    Summary

    Minimum Starting Salary: $23.00 hourly, depending on qualifications

    The City of Waco Seeks:

    A motivated and service-oriented professional to oversee visitor services programs, retail operations, and front-line staff at the Waco Mammoth National Monument historic site.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Required:
    • Associate's degree in Parks & Recreation, Business or Public Administration, or a related field
    • 2 years of Experience in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Valid Texas Driver's License
    • Must successfully complete any additional background checks required for the position, which may include a CJIS background check, federal background check, or other applicable screenings (e.g., FAA).

    Position Description:

    Under basic supervision, manages visitor services programs, retail operations, and staff of the Waco Mammoth National Monument (WMNM) historic site.

    Essential Functions:

    • Assists site manager with duties relating to operations of historic site.
    • Manages visitor services and retail operations and staff; manages budget for sales and inventory; compiles data, analyzes financial and operational information and generates management reports.
    • Researches merchandise items and selects quantities of merchandise needed.
    • Manages staff; assigns tasks and projects; trains and evaluates staff; develops staff skills and conducts performance evaluations; meets regularly with staff to discuss and resolve workload and operational issues.
    • Provides courteous service to the public with tours and information, fee collection and merchandise sales; performs duties within scope of authority and training and in compliance with City policies.
    • Leads tours of the WMNM and explains history and details of the site; assists with special event planning, marketing, promotions, developing exhibits, and educational/interpretive materials.
    • Maintains fund accounts and records; assists with purchasing, merchandising, special events and museum programs.
    • Supervision, training and mentoring of historic site assistant (FT and PT)
    • May be required to respond afterhours, including holidays and weekends, in the event of a departmental or City-wide emergency.

    Governance and Organization

    Waco is a home rule city with a council-manager form of government. The City Council is comprised of a Mayor, elected at-large, and five City Council members representing single-member districts, all serving two-year terms. The City Council sets the tax rate, approves the budget, appoints members to City boards and commissions, enacts City ordinances, and appoints the City Manager, City Attorney, City Secretary, and the Municipal Court Judge.

    The City has a strong Financial Management Policy that guides the operation and delivery of quality City services, contributes to excellent AA+ and Aa1 bond ratings, and maintains an unassigned fund balance reserve in the General Fund equal to 28% of current year budgeted expenditures. The City of Waco has more than 1,600 employees and a total operating budget of over $400 million.

    The City provides a full range of municipal services including a regional airport, animal services, building inspections, code enforcement, convention and visitors bureau, emergency management, housing and community development, economic development, fire, public health, library, municipal court, parks and recreation, planning, police, public works, Texas Ranger Hall of Fame Museum, utilities and zoo operations.
