Job SummaryThis position is for the Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs. They are looking for people with excellent project management and organization skills, ability to work with multiple clients with varying priorities, solid understanding of marketing. Under the direction of the Chief Deputy Director of the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, this position supports the Division of Museums and History in their marketing and communications needs.
The Marketing and Communications Manager will work with the administrative leadership and the marketing agency-of-record to implement a cohesive marketing and communications plan for the division on a fiscal basis. This position also leads the marketing agency team to determine how to regularly optimize the media mix to reach the established goals of each program.
Duties include conducting research to learn about content goals and target audiences, participating in meetings with management, staff, and marketing agency to identify objectives, becoming knowledgeable about each museum’s programming and then creating marketing plans to meet those objectives within effective time frames.
The Marketing and Communications Manager is responsible for overseeing and executing content and programmatic strategy. They will utilize creative vision, collaboration skills, and the ability to understand and work with stakeholders to achieve marketing goals outlined in the Division of Museums and History strategic plan. The Marketing and Communications Manager is accountable to deliver content, programs and events that engage new audiences, meet identified KPIs/metrics, and drive revenue.
Primarily, the Marketing & Communications Manager ensures that all consumer-facing programming has accurate, appropriate, and timely marketing and promotional materials, with a focus on increasing brand awareness for the state museum system, resulting in a visitation lift on a day-to-day basis. The job necessitates travel to each museum on a quarterly or bi-annual basis at a minimum. It is imperative that the Marketing & Communications Manager has the ability to track several multi-faceted projects simultaneously and adhere to quality standards and timely delivery.
The position also will interface with media outlets and governmental departments for issues that pertain to DTCA public affairs. They must inform the Governor’s office on statewide stories and should be prepared to report updates to the Governor’s communications staff regularly.
Essential Qualifications3-5 years of marketing-specific project management; knowledge of Nevada's history and culture a plus.
Job DutiesResponsibilities include:
• Works with the DTCA Director, Deputy Director, Research Director, Museums Administrator and other team members to identify marketing and communications needs.
• Serves as DMH point of contact to implement timely, goal-focused, strategic marketing programs including media buys, social media, and SEO/SEM executed by the marketing agency.
• Oversees marketing budget; defining fiscal priorities.
• Stays up-to-date on the latest developments in terms of marketing content trends and stakeholder behavior.
• Assists museum staff to develop content plans for individual museums and agency programs.
• Works with museum teams to ideate and define content goals and implement strategies.
• Ensures brand and quality consistency across all content, from websites to social media channels and videos.
• Maintains a calendar of project/event deadlines and campaign launch dates.
• Oversees the development and launch of new content channels.
• Uses content to drive reach, reputation, and revenue for museums on a variety of digital platforms (blogs, websites, social media) and traditional outlets (PR, printed newsletters, etc.)
• Works with marketing agency to manage CRM databases to ensure that communication can effectively reach opted-in audiences and will work with museum staff to establish best practices.
• Writes or edits digital copy as needed for websites and any other applicable platform; has an understanding of user experience, keywords and SEO.
• Works with research team to track consumer and content analytics and generates reports and presentations.
• Represents the Division and makes presentations on behalf of the institution when appropriate.
• Reports quarterly activity to the Division of Museums and History Board.
• Assists with museum special events, including on-site presence as needed.
• Creates pitches and coordinates media and editorial opportunities with executive staff and marketing agency.
• Oversees the America250 marketing and communications on behalf of the department, through 2026. This program’s responsibilities include:
o Holding subcommittee meetings to ensure initiatives are being tracked and implemented.
o Interfaces with each program lead to provide marketing and promotional support.
o Directs the marketing agency on earned, owned, and paid content supporting America250 Nevada initiatives.
o Informs leadership of any developments, issues, or needs for America250 Nevada initiatives.
o Organizes and presents materials for quarterly commission meetings.
o Works with media on any earned coverage.
o Ensures sponsors’ benefits are fulfilled.
o Plans and executes 2026 finale event.
o Attends events on behalf of the Amrica250 Nevada organization.
o Prepares end-of-event report.
