Summary
Under the supervision of the Library Manager , the successful candidate for Library Assistant - Reference will provide excellent customer service as a team member of the Lancaster Veterans Memorial Library. This position primarily provides reference assistance to all patrons
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Work with library catalog by adding and updating item records, classifying and adding holdings.
- Assist Children’s Services with conducting programs for children when needed.
- Gives library tours and assists at community events.
- Provide customer service-related tasks including searching print and electronic database resources to meet patrons’ informational needs, assistance with patron computer usage.
- Secondary duties will include check-out at the circulation desk, collecting fines, creating new patron cards, clerical, administrative, and other duties as assigned.
- Will be required to give informal and formal computer instruction.
- Will assist with recruitment and supervision of volunteers, selection and deselection of materials, shelving, decorating bulletin boards, updating display cases, mending books and other duties as assigned.
- Supports marketing of programs, which may include using desktop productivity software in order to create designs for posters, newsletters, invitations, scrapbooks, crafts, photography, and adding content to a website.
Education and/or Experience
Must be at least 18 years of age. Must have high school diploma or equivalent and valid driver’s license with good driving history. Work experience in a library , including circulation duties, technical services duties, use of library automation systems and general library experience. Work experience in using Microsoft computer applications, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. High level of internet search and retrieval skills.
