    We are seeking a Benefits Consultant (Wellness) to support the health and wellbeing of more than 35,000 employees, retirees, and dependents. This role helps deliver the City’s Wellness Programs, which focus on physical activity, mental wellness, nutrition education, and chronic disease prevention.

    The Benefits Consultant designs and implements wellness initiatives, tracks program engagement, partners with internal and external experts to deliver educational webinars, and coordinates events such as biometric screenings and health expos across City worksites. The role also uses health care data to identify trends and recommend program enhancements that strengthen overall wellbeing.

    Job Description:

    Benefits Consultant - Wellness (Austin Human Resources)

    Purpose:

    Responsible for providing project support to Department Directors and the Department Executive Team. Provides consulting services to process leaders and team leaders. Analyzes, and presents alternatives, makes recommendations and provides assistance for resolving business and technical issues confronting process leaders and team leaders in the areas of planning, performance measurement, change management, and periodic assessment review.

    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:

    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
    • Leads multiple process improvement teams
    • Develops project work plans, project management and periodic assessment
    • Facilitates the development of stakeholder analysis and communication plans for process improvement teams
    • Identifies, collects, and researches to complete data analysis
    • Makes recommendations to project teams and recommends organizational change utilizing appropriate talent
    • Advises process leaders and team leaders in defining/identifying key measurers and setting performance targets
    • Develops and improves models and methodologies for the department
    • Reviews and critiques the work of functional team staff
    • Communicates project and program information to all levels of the organization


    Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:
    • May provide leadership, work assignments, evaluation, training, and guidance to others.


    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
    • Knowledge of business strategies, objectives, planning, development and management processes and process improvement
    • Knowledge of performance measures Knowledge of applicable City of Austin, state and federal statutes, ordinances and codes
    • Knowledge of research methodologies, cost/benefit, analysis, statistics and financial models
    • Skill in communication in a variety of formats including: print communication, electronic format, presentations and telephonic
    • Skill in providing internal consulting services
    • Skill in project management methods
    • Skill in negotiation of projects and program initiatives
    • Interpersonal skills to engage all stakeholders and facilitate accurate requirements to capture and manage stakeholders' expectations
    • Ability to look at situations systematically
    • Ability to work independently and with teams
    • Ability to understand, interpret and apply detailed and complex information
    • Ability to manage implementation of recommendations


    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a field related to the job, plus three (3) years experience related to the job.


    Licenses and Certifications Required:

    None

    Preferred Qualifications
    • A minimum of four years of experience in implementing corporate wellness programs.
    • Experience managing, planning, and communicating large scale wellness programs; including group fitness classes, disease management, biometric screenings, flu shot clinics, hosting webinars and coordinating special events.
    • Experience working, interacting and presenting to a large or diverse employee population, including multi-site or hybrid workforces.
    • Experience analyzing claims data, preparing reports on wellness program deliverables including participation, completion, and outcome measures.
    • Strong communication skills and experience interacting and presenting to large diverse groups of people and to leadership.
    • Experience with collaborating with vendors and cross-functional partners, including managing vendor contracts, recruiting event volunteers, and the competitive solicitation process.

    As a Benefits Consultant, you will design, implement, and track engagement in wellness initiatives, partner with internal and external experts to deliver educational webinars, and coordinate citywide events such as biometric screenings and health expos.

    A background in Public Health, Health Promotion, Health Administration, or a related field is ideal. Certifications like Certified Health Education Specialist, Certified Corporate Wellness Specialist, or Certified Health Coach are helpful but not required.

    You will also use health care data to identify trends in lifestyle-related health issues and recommend program enhancements that strengthen overall wellbeing.

    Salary Range:

    $71,630 (Minimum) - $90,980.00 (Midpoint), depending on qualifications and experience.

    Days and Hours:

    Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
    Hours may vary based on operational needs. Alternative schedules and remote work options are available; however, the position requires at least 40% in-office each week. A flexible hybrid schedule may be offered after successful completion of the probationary period.

    Driving Requirement:

    If you are selected for this position and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

    City Government

    The City of Austin is a progressive, full-service municipal organization operating under the Council-Manager form of government. Austin has a 10-1 council system with an at-large Mayor and Council Members that represent ten districts.
