    POSITION SUMMARY

    The City of Fort Lauderdale seeks a Chief Education Officer.


    This position involves highly responsible managerial and administrative work focused on strengthening partnerships and communication with educational institutions and advancing the effectiveness of educational opportunities for youth and adults throughout the City. The Chief Education Officer will lead initiatives to enhance public perception of the overall quality of education Citywide by developing and implementing strategic public awareness efforts. The role also includes researching and evaluating the feasibility of alternative education opportunities to support the City’s evolving educational needs.

    This is a non-classified "at-will" position and not subject to Civil Service rules or any collective bargaining agreement.

    This is a Management Category II position which includes eight (8) additional Management Vacation days per calendar year and a monthly Employee Vehicle Allowance of $340.00.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    Essential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation.     • Work involves working closely with Broward County Public Schools and educational institutions, including, but not limited to; private, charter, and parochial schools from pre-kindergarten up through colleges and universities and other agencies identifying gaps of educational services/programs which will prepare children and youths for their futures.
    • Measures, analyzes, and improves the quality and effectiveness of educational programs, services, and initiatives; implements new outcome measures pertaining to the performance of such programs; and monitors and tracks the outcomes of programs.
    • Oversees, researches, evaluates, and plans future delivery of educational services within the organization.
    • Serves as the Liaison for the City's Education Advisory Board; organizing monthly meetings, maintaining regular correspondence with Board Members, and planning and scheduling speakers for meetings.
    • Advises the City Manager, City Commission, Education Advisory Board, and neighborhood representatives on matters related to education.
    • Presents and leads discussions at meetings and engages audiences through public speaking.
    • Attends and represents the City at City Commission, Broward County Public School Board, and Community/Neighborhood Association meetings.
    • Promotes community engagement and leads public awareness campaigns and innovative projects to strengthen and empower children, youths, and family's knowledge on educational programs available.
    • Fosters and builds relationships/alliances with community-based organizations and leaders and collaborates to improve current educational programs and the creation of future programs.
    • Researches, solicits, identifies, obtains, and advocates for resources that will improve funding for and access to high quality education services Citywide.
    • Pursues education programs and projects by securing additional funding from federal and state grants and other philanthropic resources to increase and develop education resources Citywide.
    • Manages teams as necessary.
    • Strategically utilizes social media and community outreach.
    • Performs related work as required.


    JOB REQUIREMENTS, PREFERENCES & WORK ENVIRONMENT

    MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
    Bachelor's degree in education, public or business administration, or closely related field.Five (5) or more years of experience in identifying, establishing, monitoring, and enhancing educational programs or services. Possess or be able to obtain a valid State of Florida driver’s license within 30 days of hire.If claiming Veterans' Preference, you must attach a copy of the DD214 Member 4 Form (or other supporting claim documents) to your on-line application.
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
    Master's Degree in a closely related field.Established relationships with Broward County School Board Administrators.Knowledge of educational programs within Broward County.
    As public servants, employees may be required to work immediately before, during, and/or after an emergency. all employees must be available and able to work assigned shifts as determined by their Department Heads.


    PHYSICAL STANDATDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
    The position is generally sedentary. Employees sit most of the time, but may walk or stand for brief periods of time.
