    POSITION OVERVIEW

    Position Title: Seasonal Intern - General Labor Intern Applications accepted from: Ages 16 - 24 Department: Houston Airport System, Parks & Recreation, Houston Health, & Houston Police Department
    Division: Various Reporting Location: Various Workdays & Hours: Various General description of the intern duties:

    Houston Airport System Maintenance/Supply Chain/Warehouse Basic warehousing, to include sorting, picking, inventorying and supervised delivery of goods to all HAS business units. Parks & Recreation Parks Facilities Management and Development - Playgrounds / Day Use Assist Playgrounds / Day Use / Graffiti Section with general labor and maintenance repairs to park amenities.
    Parks & Recreation Parks Facilities Management and Development Assist Heavy Construction with day-to-day duties that includes removal of dirt, repairing trails, helping with construction related duties.
    Parks & Recreation Parks Facilities Management and Development - Carpentry Assist the Carpentry Section with general labor duties which include: paintings, park amenity repairs, etc.
    Parks & Recreation Parks - Facilities Management and Development - Light Construction Assist the light construction section with painting, moving furniture, sidewalk repairs, park amenity repairs.
    Houston Health Inventory Clerk
    Receives, unloads, unpacks, shelves, distributes and delivers incoming parts, tools, materials, supplies, equipment, inventory, etc. May assist with moving and loading surplus property.

    Houston Police Stable Attendant Cleaning horse stalls, filling hay grazers, some grooming of horses and general maintenance barn duties

    Intern skill/experience preferred:
    Houston Airport System Maintenance/Supply Chain/Warehouse None Parks & Recreation Parks Facilities Management and Development - Playgrounds / Day Use Experience in general labor and construction preferred. Parks & Recreation Parks Facilities Management and Development General labor and construction experience preferred Parks & Recreation Parks Facilities Management and Development - Carpentry General Labor and construction experience preferred. Parks & Recreation Parks - Facilities Management and Development - Light Construction General Labor and construction experience preferred. Houston Health Inventory Clerk Written and verbal communication, proficient with Microsoft, attention to detail. Houston Police Stable Attendant Able to lift 10 lbs, love of animals, positive attitude. Able to work in warm climate.

    GENERAL INFORMATION
    Thanks for your interest in the City of Houston's Youth Summer Jobs Program, which will run from June 8 - July 31, 2026. Interns will work 32 hours per week and earn $14 per hour . This program provides an excellent opportunity for you to earn and learn by becoming a member of the team that takes care of the residents of the nation’s 4th largest city.

    WORKING CONDITIONS
    The position is physically comfortable, the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. Some positions require working outside in varied weather conditions, and the ability to use certain tools.

    There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions. Some positions are outdoors and require the ability to function in warm/hot weather conditions.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
    Ability to read, write, add, subtract and follow oral and basic written instructions. May have a basic knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation. May require a basic knowledge of a particular subject area. (Individuals may be high school students.) Must be 16 years of age or older.

    Age Requirement: 16 -24
