  • Job Description

    Full-time position available with the Water Department, Water Distribution Engineering Division, located at 4800 E 63rd St.
    Salary Range: $5,794-$8,833/month
    Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00a.m.-4:30p.m. with telework available one day per pay period after completion of 6-month probationary period.

    Responsibilities

    • Plans and supervises the work of professional and paraprofessional subordinates engaged in survey, design and construction and inspection of water utilities improvements
    • Performs technical review of plans and site inspection of water utility construction projects.
    • Completes hydraulic evaluation of the distribution system with a computerized model (e.g.,digital twin) of the system. The digital twin is a critical tool for evaluation of projects and associate impacts (both negative and positive) to the system prior to construction.
    • Plans and supervises feasibility studies, makes advanced plans, designs, and cost estimates for planned or scheduled projects; participates in public meetings and hearings.
    • Designs, prepares and administers detailed maintenance and/or modernization programs for water utilities and related facilities.
    • Develops department work standards for increased efficiency in the management and execution of projects.
    • Aids with improvement initiatives for department policies and system design standards.
    • Frequently consults with internal divisions, consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders as required in the analysis, design, review of plans/specification, and inspection of construction work for compliance with prescribed engineering criteria.
    • Serves as an assistant section chief in major division dealing in engineering related activities.
    • Directs and supervises employees engaged in maintaining plans, maps and engineering records of the city.
    • Trains new employees by acquainting them with office procedures, city policies, use of equipment, engineering computation and related matters.
    • Reviews developer plans and drawings; prepares ordinances to construct private utility systems.
    • Maintains necessary records and prepares reports.
    • Performs related duties as required.



    Qualifications

    REQUIRES Professional Engineer registration. Within six (6) months of hire date, must be registered as a Professional Engineer with Missouri Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Professional Land Surveyors, and Professional Landscape Architects. May be required to pass a preemployment drug screen. Preference give to applicants with demonstrated knowledge of distribution system hydraulics and hydraulic modeling with Innovyze modeling software; water main design; water main extensions; construction oversight of projects; proficiency with eBuilder project management software, Hansen and GIS; minimum of five years of experience with minimum of 4 years experience in a position requiring project management experience including management of projects $1-5 million in value, coordinating with multiple utilities during site build, communication with stakeholders throughout design and construction, working with internal and external contractors focusing on design and construction, and managing/overseeing project budget and schedule.
