    Job Summary

    Under general supervision of the Facilities Engineering Manager - Infrastructure and Projects (Facilities Engineering Manager), with additional lead work direction provided from other members of the Facilities Management team, the Supervising Building Services Engineer (SBSE) is primarily responsible for supervising and working with small groups or crews of skilled and semi-skilled workers involved in the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems including heating, ventilating, refrigeration, air conditioning, power, water and sewer systems and equipment as related to HVAC and/or mechanical systems throughout campus. The incumbent is primarily responsible for the Central Plant equipment operation, maintenance and repair which also serves the majority of campus. This includes the Central Plant boilers and chillers, and the Building Management System (BMS) for the heating and cooling systems on campus. In collaboration with the Facilities Engineering Manager, oversee, monitor, maintain and execute necessary protocol and documentation for state fire marshal and building compliance requirements. In addition, this position supervises and works with a team of other assigned shop personnel with varying classifications.

    Key Qualifications

    The required knowledge, skills and abilities of the Supervising Building Service Engineer normally would be acquired through three or more years of experience working as a journey-level crafts worker in the operation, maintenance and repair of boiler and chiller systems, cogeneration systems, and/or related mechanical equipment, including one to two years in a lead/supervisory capacity. Completion of a formal apprenticeship program relating to Central Plant or building engineering is preferred. Knowledge of MetaBIM, computerized maintenance management system and PeopleSoft preferred. The incumbent must successfully complete a pre-placement exam and must possess and/or obtain and thereafter maintain a California Driver’s License valid for the operation of any vehicle or equipment required to maintain and operate. Intermediate proficiency with computers and Google and/or Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) required.

    Salary and Benefits

    This is a full time, non-exempt position, which will lead toward permanent status following the successful completion of a probationary period. The Teamsters 2010 Classification Step Range for this position is $7,497 - $10,921 per month (step 1 - step 20). Step placement will be determined based on relevant qualifications and professional experience. Step placement upon appointment is not expected to exceed Step 6 ($8,277 a month).

    This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. In addition, 15 paid holidays are offered each year. Sonoma State University is also a Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF) Employer.
