    Desktop Support Technologist
    (Information Technologist I)


    SALARY INFORMATION

    Salary may be negotiable within the range listed above, based on position requirements and the successful candidate's qualifications, subject to appropriate authorization.

    OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
    This recruitment will establish an open eligible list that will be used to fill current and future Information Technologist I positions. The eligible list established may also be used to fill positions in similar and/or lower classifications throughout the County of Orange.

    The mission of Orange County Information Technology (OCIT) is to provide innovative, reliable, and secure technology solutions that support County departments in the delivery of quality public services. OCIT provides IT solutions across County departments for voice communications, network services, application support, service desk, desktop support, as well as data center services.

    THE OPPORTUNITY
    The Desktop Support Technologist for the Orange County Information Technology (OCIT) Shared Services will be a technically skilled individual who will be supporting and maintaining a variety of applications as well as analyzing service desk calls. This position requires technical knowledge and comprehensions skills with written and oral communication experience. The Desktop Support Technologist will be essential in providing technical support, troubleshooting and training to end users.

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES
    In addition, to the minimum qualifications, the ideal candidate will have at least three (3) years of work experience providing desktop support services. The ideal candidate will possess extensive work experience and/or knowledge in the following competencies:

    Technical Knowledge | Technical Expertise
    • Basic understanding and applying scripting languages, such as Powershell
    • Understanding and application of Full Disk Encryption solutions
    • Utilizing Active Directory Domain Services
    • Installing and providing support for Mobile Device Management (MOM) solutions, through Intune and Apple DEP
    • Supporting teleworkers and mobile offices in the field including remote Internet connectivity solutions such as VPN
    • Working with virtualization, cloud, and converged technologies, including VMWare
    • Working closely with Microsoft cloud services from 0365 and Azure virtualization
    • Understanding and application of VPN and RDP solutions
    • Designing and implementing audio/video conferencing systems, Managing the Change Control Process across various technologies
    • Managing complex automated Asset management solutions
    • Demonstrating expertise related to Microsoft Windows 11 operating system
    • Being experienced working with high performance platforms and managing/designing/maintaining advanced technologies

    Problem Solving | Analytical Skills
    • Identifying, investigating, and resolving technical and network-related issues and problems
    • Researching possible solutions for continued system improvements
    • Providing professional support for hardware/software-related projects
    • Testing new software and reproducing reporting bugs in the UAT environment
    Oral | Written Communication Skills
    • Responding quickly, courteously, and proficiently to customer service requests
    • Soliciting feedback and adjusting customer service requests to fit into business improvement
    • Building and maintaining positive forward focused customer-oriented work environments
    • Clearly conveying information technology concepts and terminology with both technical and non-technical staff at all levels within and outside the agency
    • Preparing and maintaining documentation of department processes and procedures

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENT | BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION
    Part of the selection process for positions within Orange County Information Technology (OCIT) requires that all candidates undergo a background investigation process, to the satisfaction of the Department. Candidates must successfully clear prior to the start of their employment. All employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation.

    RECRUITMENT PROCESS
    Human Resource Services (HRS) will screen all application materials for minimum qualifications. After the initial screening, qualified applicants will be referred to the next step of the selection process. All applicants will be notified via email of their status in the process.

    Application Screening (Refer/Non-Refer)
    Applications and supplemental responses will be screened for qualifications that are highly desirable and most needed to successfully perform the duties of this job. Only those applicants that meet the qualifications as listed in the job bulletin will be referred to the next step.

    Online Assessment (Weighted 100%)
    Candidates whose applications reflect the most job-related experience and training will be invited to the online assessment. Only the most qualified candidates will be referred to the next step.

    Eligible List
    Once the assessment has been completed, HRS will establish an eligible list of candidates. Candidates placed on the eligible list may be referred to a selection interview to be considered for present and future vacancies.

    Based on the Department's needs, the selection procedure listed above may be modified. All candidates will be notified of any changes in the selection procedure.
