    The Job

    The Probation Department is recruiting for a Domestic Violence Program Coordinator to plan, organize, and coordinate programs designed to provide services to offenders, victims, and all courts in the county involved in Domestic Violence cases. This position will monitor compliance of Court-ordered terms of probation regarding the completion of 52-week domestic violence counseling for offenders; meet with treatment providers to determine domestic violence offenders’ progress and appear in Domestic Violence Court; make oral recommendations regarding domestic violence offenders; supervise staff assisting in Domestic Violence cases; and recruit and train volunteers.

    Probation Department duties include:
    • Approve, verify, and monitor domestic violence programs pursuant to PC 1203.097(c) (5).
    • Maintain a high level of communication with Probation Officers regarding offender compliance.
    • Maintain high level of communication and interaction with offenders.
    • Provide caseload management and services as needed.
    • Review case information history including restraining orders.
    • Complete assessments and provide copies for case file.
    • Work with victims and make necessary referrals such as Legal Aid, Shelters, etc.
    • Complete Domestic Violence victim letters.
    • Review various Court orders regarding visitation, restraining orders, custody, etc.
    • Complete Child Abuse reports.
    • Coordinate with Children and Family Services on cases/referrals.
    • Perform related duties as required.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
    Background: Candidates must not have been convicted of a felony, or currently be (or have been within the last year) on court ordered probation; and upon appointment must pass a background investigation, including a fingerprint check, psychological testing and a polygraph test.

    Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required and employees will be required to make provisions for such transportation.

    Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.

    Policies: All incumbents are expected to adhere to all county and department-specific policies.

    Minimum Requirements

    Experience: Three (3) years of full-time equivalent experience providing casework, counseling, treatment or advocate services in a criminal justice or social service environment; experience must have included case management.

    -AND-

    Education:

    Option 1: Completion of a bachelor‘s degree or equivalent coursework.
    -OR-
    Option 2: Thirty semester (45 quarter) units of completed college coursework in psychology, sociology, administration of justice or other closely related behavioral science courses; of which half must be upper division courses.

    *Notes:
    Employment and/or vocational counseling, child support issues, and program eligibility are not considered qualifying experience.
    Degree must be accredited by an accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education.

    Desired Qualifications

    The ideal candidate will be highly organized, perceptive, and conversant of domestic violence and batterer's intervention programs, exhibiting a working knowledge of Federal and State laws and regulations, court practices and procedures that relate to domestic violence and/or family law. Exercising sound judgement and demonstrating empathy and the ability to work with a diverse community. Experienced with case management and case monitoring functions while maintaining a realistic balance among multiple priorities.
