    TPWD MISSION

    To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION :

    This position will assist the State Parks Emergency Management Specialist in day to day operations and special projects.

    Under the direction of the State Parks Emergency Management Specialist this internship is an opportunity designed for students to obtain relevant work experience to be competitive for future positions in Emergency Management. Duties may include: Writing or reviewing emergency operational procedures, participate in emergency Management training and table top exercises, assist State Park Emergency Management Specialist in day to day operations. Ensures compliance with State and Federal laws and regulations, and agency policies and procedures. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division, and Branch rules, regulations, and procedures.

    Writing or reviewing emergency operational porcedures, participate in emergency Management training and table top exercises, assist State Park Emergency Management Specialist in day to day operations. Ensures compliance with State and Federal laws and regulations, and agency policies and procedures.

    Qualifications:

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

    Education :

    Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited college or university or recent graduate with a bachelor's degree or higher within the last 6 months.

    Minimum of 18 completed semester credit hours from an accredited college or university at time of application.

    Must have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 grade point scale or "Pass" on a Pass/Fail system.

    Experience :

    None required.

    Licensure :

    Must possess a valid state driver's license.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :

    Knowledge of Texas State Parks.

    Skill in effective verbal and written communication.

    Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with peers or leaders while work on projects or assignments.

    Skill in managing several projects simultaneously.

    Skill in using MS Word, Excel and Outlook.

    Skill in exercising leadership qualities.

    Skill in with civic or community engagement.

    Skill in meeting deadlines.

    Ability to work as a member of a team.

    Ability to prepare reports.

    Ability to maintain flexibility and work with frequent interruptions and multiple changing priorities.

    Ability to communicate effectively with the public utilizing written oral and visual means.

    Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.

    WORKING CONDITIONS :

    Internship duration and work week schedule to be mutually determined by supervisor and intern.

    Required to work overtime as necessary.

    Required to work hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays as necessary.

    May required to travel 25% of the time with possible overnight stays.

    Required to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 25 lbs.

    Required to conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures.

    Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
