    TPWD MISSION

    To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION :

    Under supervision of the Facility Director and Program Specialists, this position is responsible for assisting with Sea Center Texas outreach and volunteer programs. Assists with planning and hosting Sea Center Texas educational events and may assist with developing new educational activities. Intern would need to be comfortable directly interacting with the public and providing interpretive programs. Assists with guided hatchery tours, touch tank activities, and gift shop operations, as needed. May organize educational materials and perform administrative duties. This is a public facing position. If you have a passion for marine life and want to share it with others, this internship is for you!

    Visitor Center Operations- Assists with the daily operations of the Visitor Center and gift shop. Provides physical backup support for volunteer duties and operations when needed. Assists guests and provides quality customer service. Assists with marketing, social media, public relations, and promotional activities. Maintains exhibits and aquaria. Maintains the facility, grounds, and wetland boardwalk. Maintains a stock of facilities, TPWD, and other educational literature for distribution to the public.

    Education Programs - Develops content and conducts education programs for the public. Leads summer camps for up to 15 campers aged 9 -14.

    Outreach - Assists with youth fishing program, kayak program, offsite outreach events and largescale public events.

    Administrative Duties - Accurately completes time sheets, visitation and gift shop data entry and other required paperwork.

    Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with Agency, Division and Department rules, regulations, and procedures.



    Qualifications:

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    Education :
    Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited college or university or recent graduate with a bachelor's degree or higher within the last 6 months.
    Minimum of 18 completed semester credit hours from an accredited college or university at time of application.
    Must have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 grade point scale or "Pass" on a Pass/Fail system.
    Experience :
    None required.
    Licensure :
    Must possess a valid state driver's license.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    Education :
    Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited college or university pursuing a degree relevant to the position; examples are majors in Marine Biology/Marine Science, Fisheries Biology, Biology, Wildlife and Fisheries Science, Oceanography, Environmental Science, and Natural Resource Management.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
    Skill in using MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
    Skill in effective verbal and written communication.
    Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner.
    Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers and work-related contacts.

    Ability to learn to identify and discuss common marine finfish.
    Ability to collect and record data.
    Ability to accurately follow instructions.
    Ability to work as a member of a team.
    Ability to maintain facilities and equipment.
    Ability to perform manual labor, including lifting equipment and materials up to 50 lbs.
    Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.

    WORKING CONDITIONS
    Internship duration and work week schedule to be mutually determined by supervisor and intern.
    Required to work overtime as necessary.
    Required to work 40 hours per week, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.
    May be required to travel 5% of the time with possible overnight stays.
    Required to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.
    Required to conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures.
    Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
