Job Summary While enrolled in the Electric Meter Technician Apprenticeship Program for Bryan Texas Utilities ( BTU ), this position works with high and low-voltage equipment involved in electric kilowatt-hour metering and performs meter testing and maintenance.
Essential Job Functions - Tests all types of electric meters.
- Troubleshoots metering problems.
- Installs special metering applications.
- Learns and displays a working knowledge of work rules and safety practices.
- Responds with sound judgment to unusual and hazardous circumstances.
- Maintains responsibility for verifying the condition of all vehicles, equipment and tools provided for use in the performance of work.
- Represents BTU in a manner conducive to good public relations.
- Assists with recordkeeping and maintains a log of work assigned/performed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Responds regularly and promptly to work.
Minimum Qualifications - Requires a High School Diploma/ GED .
- Work experience in construction, maintenance or repair of electrical/electronic equipment, or other labor/skilled trades experience is preferred.
- Must be able to progress successfully through a four-year apprentice training program. Depending on experience/training, applicants may come in at a higher level within the apprentice program.
- After successful completion of the apprentice program, the Apprentice Electric Meter Technician shall be advanced to the position of to a journeyman level Electric Meter Technician.
Licenses, Certifications & Special Requirements - Requires a Texas Class C driver’s license with a good driving record as measured by the City’s evaluation system.
- Residence must be within 30-minute response time.
