    Job Summary
    While enrolled in the Electric Meter Technician Apprenticeship Program for Bryan Texas Utilities ( BTU ), this position works with high and low-voltage equipment involved in electric kilowatt-hour metering and performs meter testing and maintenance.
    Essential Job Functions
    • Tests all types of electric meters.
    • Troubleshoots metering problems.
    • Installs special metering applications.
    • Learns and displays a working knowledge of work rules and safety practices.
    • Responds with sound judgment to unusual and hazardous circumstances.
    • Maintains responsibility for verifying the condition of all vehicles, equipment and tools provided for use in the performance of work.
    • Represents BTU in a manner conducive to good public relations.
    • Assists with recordkeeping and maintains a log of work assigned/performed.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    • Responds regularly and promptly to work.
    Minimum Qualifications
    • Requires a High School Diploma/ GED .
    • Work experience in construction, maintenance or repair of electrical/electronic equipment, or other labor/skilled trades experience is preferred.
    • Must be able to progress successfully through a four-year apprentice training program. Depending on experience/training, applicants may come in at a higher level within the apprentice program.
    • After successful completion of the apprentice program, the Apprentice Electric Meter Technician shall be advanced to the position of to a journeyman level Electric Meter Technician.


    Licenses, Certifications & Special Requirements
    • Requires a Texas Class C driver’s license with a good driving record as measured by the City’s evaluation system.
    • Residence must be within 30-minute response time.
