    Full-time position available with the Parks & Recreation Department, Natural Resources Maintenance Division located at 4600 E. 63rd St.
    Starting Salary: $24.77/hour
    Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

    Responsibilities

    • Maintains weekly, monthly and yearly reports, create reports as needed such as snow, mowing, and equipment reports using CivicRec, Cartegraph and Drive Cam, etc.
    • Prepares and assembles clear, concise lesson plans, course curricula, visual and mechanical aids, written materials and hands-on instruction.
    • Updates training manuals, handbooks, videos and other training aids required for instruction.
    • Provides support to all districts with safety training and maintain all files so we stay in compliance with the AR's and department accreditation.
    • Serves as the district POC for employee training.
    • Conducts driver/operator performance checks in the field and provides training and correction if needed.
    • Assists with maintaining the operation of the snow command center, communicates with all districts on areas utilizing, Rubicon, snow reports.
    • Trains on Smith System Driving techniques program
    • Provides active learning classroom instruction including small groups and one-on-one assistance for employees studying for the written CDL exam.
    • Evaluates effectiveness of training programs by measuring changes in skill levels and improvements demonstrated by personnel.
    • Establishes and maintains cooperation of supervisors and employees toward the principal objective of eliminating unsafe driving/operator habits and practices.
    • Participates in CDL audits initiated by internal and external requirements.
    • Works overtime as needed.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.



    Qualifications

    REQUIRES high school graduation and 5 years of experience operating heavy equipment or conducting heavy vehicle training courses and possession of a valid Class A or B CDL for 5 years; OR an accredited Associate's degree in related field (i.e. Occupational Education/Automotive Technology/Mechanical/Teaching), and 3 years of progressively responsible experience operating heavy equipment or conducting heavy vehicle training courses and possession of a valid Class A or B CDL for 5 years. May be required to possess Smith System Certification. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer physical examination as prescribed by the City. Must possess a Missouri Class A or B CDL with tanker or passenger endorsement and no airbrake restrictions.

    The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
    For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
    Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

    If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
