    Job Summary

    The Training Specialist, assigned to the Office of the Military STARBASE Program, is responsible for implementing and instructing all STARBASE curriculum and lessons. The position performs instructional duties in a manner that inspires students and fosters engaging, memorable, and positive learning experiences.

    This role works closely with a Teaching Assistant to ensure effective classroom delivery and program execution and reports directly to the Deputy Director.

    Essential Qualifications

    The Teacher/Training Specialist must possess a strong foundation in education, instructional aptitude, and classroom experience. Required qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in education with an emphasis in science and mathematics, a valid Nevada teaching license, and strong computer proficiency, including experience with Windows- and Mac-based systems and the ability to quickly adapt to new technologies and software. The position requires dynamic communication skills, the ability to organize and prioritize multiple assignments while meeting deadlines and adjusting to changing priorities, and a professional, positive approach to instruction. Candidates must demonstrate effective classroom management skills that foster an engaging, inclusive learning environment and are adaptable to the needs of diverse student groups and individual learners. The ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team is essential. A minimum of three years of elementary education experience is preferred.

    Job Duties

    This position requires the ability to deliver instruction across English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science at the elementary level, applying established teaching practices and curriculum standards. The role draws upon formal training in education, appropriate licensure, and prior elementary classroom experience to support effective student learning outcomes.

    The presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.

On October 31, 1864, President Lincoln proclaimed Nevada's admission to the Union as the 36th state. The State's first elected Governor, Henry Blasdel, took office on December 5, 1864.

    Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
