Position Summary:
Assists the pharmacist in the preparation, control and dispensing of medications by receiving, stocking, recording, compounding, filling, labeling and transporting medications. Assists in the retrieval, retention and processing of information, reports and clerical functions.
Job Requirement
Education/Experience:
Equivalent to graduation from high school and one (1) year of experience as a pharmacy technician or completion of a formalized pharmacy technician training program that is recognized by the Nevada State Board of Pharmacy.
Licensing/Certification Requirements:
Valid State of Nevada Certification as a Pharmacy Technician. Some positions may require a valid State of Nevada Drivers License.
Additional Position Requirements
- A minimum of one year inpatient (hospital) Pharmacy Technician.
- Documented IV (intravenous) room experience.
- Availability to work ALL shifts , including graveyard, seven (7) days a week, as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Physical Requirements
Knowledge of:
Federal, state and/or county guidelines, rules and regulations associated with the distribution of medications; pharmacy standards of practice; basics of drug indications and drug interactions; medical terminology; trade and generic drug names; basic compounding techniques; aseptic compounding technique; personal and mainframe computers; routes of administration for standard medications; storage requirements for standard medications; department and hospital safety practices and procedures; patient rights; age specific patient care practices; infection control policies and practices; handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures.
Skill in:
Applying basic knowledge of appropriate dosage and frequency for standard medications; utilizing equipment associated with area of responsibility; utilizing a computer and specific application software; performing pharmaceutical calculations; preparing and maintaining accurate counts and records; organizing and prioritizing work; applying aseptic technique to compounding medications; communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties; efficient, effective and safe use of equipment.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Mobility to work in a typical clinical setting and use standard equipment, stamina to remain standing and/or walk for extended periods of time, vision to read printed materials and VDT screens, hearing and speech to communicate effectively in-person and over the telephone. Strength and agility to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The work requires handling medications classified as hazardous materials.
