Overview
Design, fabricate, assemble and install various types of signs including traffic, departmental and street signs for the Department of Public Works. Utilize work management and asset systems to track work orders and tasks. Assists the Work Coordinator and Infrastructure Manager in other functions including, but not limited to striping, signs, and barricading (traffic control). Required to be on one (I) week On-Call rotation.
Responsibilities
- Designs, fabricate, assemble and install various types of signs including traffic, departmental and street signs for the Department of Public Works Operates an array of sign-making equipment (i.e printer, blades, software, roll applicator, sign straightener, cutter, etc.)
- Assist with traffic sign, pavement marking and traffic control in On-Call rotation and set up special events as necessary
- Respond to work requests and fabricates signs as assigned using various software and equipment
- Assists Supervisor(s) in the installation and/or maintenance of traffic signs, pavement marking, and traffic control for normal and emergency operations
- Ensure maintenance and installations are in compliance with the TMUTCD, SHSD, Municode, lDM and any other adopted City, State and Federal Codes and Standards
- Obeying all traffic laws while operating fleet vehicles and equipment from one location to another
- Follow all City policies
- Be able to operate on even or uneven terrain such as streets & earthen rights-of- way
- Perform daily Pre/Post-trip inspections on all types of equipment and vehicles
- Utilize forklift and hand jack to unload new traffic signs and materials
- Operate sign truck and hydraulic hammer
- Respond to after hours and weekends emergencies
- Must work under emergency responses during and or after any city emergency event Example: Hurricanes, tropical storms, ice storms or any other city emergency
- All employees will work on-Call Duty rotation schedule and must be able to work different rotation shift under emergency responses
- All other duties as assigned
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
- Non-Exempt - Full-Time - Monday-Friday 7:00am-4:00pm
- Must be available to work additional hours as needed
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
- In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma / GED
- Two (2) years of relevant experience

Required
- A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hiring
- Certification in Traffic Control & Flagging (acquire within 6 months)
Preferred
Forklift Certification

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
