Overview
The Public Works Technician III - Base Restoration is responsible for safe and efficient operation of a variety of heavy and highly complex equipment in their effort to meet the yearly goal of pavement repair and maintenance and pothole patching within five (5) days' notice
Responsibilities
- Operates at a highly efficient level various street construction/ maintenance equipment not limited to but including trucks rollers, compactors, street brooms, grad-all, motor grader, planers, reclaimers, asphalt, skid steer, and various other street maintenance equipment in the process of repairing and maintaining streets
- Understands how to use the equipment to achieve the desired results based off plans and specifications
- Conducts equipment pre- start inspections on all equipment prior to operating and performs minor repairs and/ or maintenance as needed to assigned equipment
- Completes daily reports and paperwork as needed
- Performs labor activities not limited to but including loading and unloading tools and materials
- Shovels, sweeps, rakes, smoothing and tamping various materials in different stages of construction
- Uses air compressor tools such as jackhammers and compactors
- Spray oils from distributors and other equipment as needed
- Follows the Traffic control standards as per the Texas MUTCD Work Zone Traffic Control Guide
- Develops or assists in development of traffic control plan for each job including responsible for implementing basic Traffic Control Procedures
- Directs traffic control at jobsite by Flagging, cones, barrel and barricades
- Knows how to setup message boards, water barrier, Type I, II, II Barricade during normal & emergency operations
- Grounds keeping around street maintenance yard: mow grass and use weed eater around obstacles
- Sweeps curb and gutters, removes trash, and disposes of properly
- O perates power equipment and hand tools to complete job tasks
- Maintains safe keeping of materials and supplies in storage area
- May be asked to perform other duties as assigned
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
- Non-Exempt - Full-Time
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
- In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Qualifications
- High School Diploma / GED
- Four (4) years of experience
Licenses and Certifications
Required
- Candidate must register with FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse if candidate has a CDL
- A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
Required within six (6) months of hire
- Traffic Control & Flagging certification
- Confined Space certification
- Trenching & Shoring certification
Preferred
- Texas Commercial Driver's License (CDL) -Class A with Air brake endorsement

Basis of Rating
A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications and may request additional information. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
