Under general direction, manages and supervises activities and operations of the Rescue/Foster Program. The Rescue/Foster Coordinator will play a key role in helping to grow our rescue partner/foster network and capabilities by establishing lasting relationships with our partners and fosters. This position will assist with the oversight and management of the rescue partner and foster programs to move an animal from the shelter system into a loving, temporary home or rescue partner.
Job Description:Purpose:Under general direction, this position manages and supervises activities and operations of the Rescue/Foster Program.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
1.Select shelter animals for foster/rescue program and coordinate their transfer, transport, ongoing care and disposition.
2.Recruit, qualify and orient rescue partners.
3.Recruit, orient and monitor volunteer foster parents and provide training and resources on appropriate animal care and handling of fostered animals.
4.Accurately maintain all required records in the shelter’s database in a timely manner.
5.Ensure compliance of program participants with all policies and laws and in support of the shelter’s mission and goals.
6.Safely and humanely handle and/or restrain animals, including those of unknown health and temperament.
7.Contribute to the organization’s marketing and promotion efforts.
8.Comply with all city policies, and procedures.
9.Contribute to the programs and services that support the shelter’s live outcome goal.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
- Knowledge of applicable processes, techniques and methods.
- Knowledge of Federal, State, Local laws and ordinances governing animal care.
- Knowledge of city practice, policy and procedures.
- Skill in handling conflict and uncertain situations.
- Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
- Skill in using computers and related software applications.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with City employees, volunteers and the public.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:•Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus two (2) years’ experience in animal welfare or related field.
Licenses and Certifications Required: •Valid Texas Class C Driver's License
Preferred Experience:- Demonstrated experience in recruiting, screening, and orientation of animal rescue or volunteer partners.
- Demonstrated experience in successfully supporting animal foster parents or programs.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other departments or teams.
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations.
- Demonstrated experience handling shelter animals while following positive reinforcement practices, including exotic species.
- Demonstrated experience administering vaccines, microchipping and other basic wellness items.
- Demonstrated experience supporting marketing efforts and events.
- Bilingual in Spanish
