    Job Summary

    The Director of Student Financial Services provides strategic leadership, effective management, and oversight of the functions within Student Account Services, Cashiering, Financial Aid Disbursements, University Collections, Student Aid Accounting, and Front Office Administrative Support operations. The role ensures sound fiscal stewardship, compliance with federal, state, and university regulations, and the delivery of student-centered services that promote access, equity, and overall student success.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Responsibility for the management and oversight of the functions within Student Account Services, Cashiering, Financial Aid Disbursements, University Collections, Student Aid Accounting, and Front Office Administrative Support operations.
    • Involvement in the implementation of new functionality and upgrades to Student Financial Services related to financial systems including but not limited to: PeopleSoft Student Administration, PeopleSoft Common Financial System, PeopleSoft Human Resources, Third-Party systems including Transact, T2 (Parking Permits and Citations), StarRez (Housing).
    • Responsibility for the implementation and communication of all student fee related activity including but not limited to establishment of new fees; increases or decreases in fees; support for the Student Fee Advisory Committee; and support for the campus community in implementing fee actions.

    The ideal candidate demonstrates exceptional communication and supervisory skills, fostering collaborative relationships and guiding staff to deliver high-quality service to students, faculty, and staff. They possess deep expertise in managing complex operations across Student Account Services, Cashiering, Financial Aid Disbursements, University Collections, Student Aid Accounting, and administrative support. With a strong foundation in financial record-keeping, governmental accounting standards, and automated financial systems, they excel at analyzing data, identifying operational needs, and developing effective procedures. Their ability to evaluate office activities and recommend solutions ensures alignment with departmental goals and compliance with state and federal requirements.

    Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

    Education and Experience

    • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and a minimum of seven years of related experience required (progressively responsible supervisory experience in fiscal management in a medium or large size accounting or higher education organization working in a highly automated financial operation).

    • Master's degree in accounting or a CPA is also highly desirable.

    • Experience in PeopleSoft ERP and Transact Campus Payments systems is preferred.

    Physical Summary

    • Sedentary work - Involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects. (10 pounds or less).

    Compensation

    Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $9,164 - $11,750 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

    CSU MPP Compensation Summary Range: The MPP Comp Summary Range for this position is $9,164 - $13,746 per month.

    Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

    Additional Information

    The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 Revised July 21, 2017 as a condition of employment.

    A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
