Position DescriptionTacoma Water is searching for an accomplished and dynamic
Budget Supervisor to provide leadership and advanced financial analysis for our team. Our ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with a strong background in budget development and financial management, and a passion for leading and mentoring a professional team.
As the Budget Supervisor, you will lead a team of two professional analysts, and will be responsible for providing high-level financial guidance, analyzing complex budgets, and driving key decisions for a variety of stakeholders, including senior leadership and policy makers.
Key Responsibilities- Budget Development and Management: Lead the development and ongoing management of Tacoma Water's nearly $300 million O&M budget and $80 million capital program. You will coordinate with capital planners, engineers, and cost center managers to develop and monitor budgets throughout the biennium. You will also analyze and provide recommendations on financial policies and procedures and identify opportunities for continuous improvement in financial management.
- Team Leadership and Supervision: Directly supervise a team of financial professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance evaluations. You will set goals, assign work, and ensure that all staff development and management practices align with Tacoma's policies.
- Strategic Communication and Stakeholder Engagement: Develop and present financial reports to inform and engage senior management, policy makers, and other stakeholders. You will also create training materials and facilitate workshops on budgeting and financial processes to promote understanding across the organization. You'll act as a primary point of contact for complex financial questions and issues.
- Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as a subject matter expert on business operations, including budgeting, accounting, procurement, and internal auditing. You will also manage the use of SAP systems for Tacoma Water's cost objects and lead the implementation of new tools for financial forecasting and reporting.
Qualifications Minimum Education* Bachelor's degree in public or business administration or directly related field
Minimum Experience* 5 years of progressively responsible analytical and/or program coordination/management work in area related to assignment (budget/accounting) including 1 year prior at senior, lead and/or supervisory level
*Equivalency: 1 year of experience = 1 year of education

Hourly Rate: $53.02 - $74.64
Annual Salary: $110,281.60 - $155,251.20

Direct Deposit: Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule by direct deposit.
Salary Increases: Based on satisfactory job performance, the City provides for a regular progression of salary increases for most classifications according to the salary schedule.
Union Affiliation: Many job classifications are covered by union security provisions which require union membership, dues, or payment of equivalent service fees.
