    This position will be filled at a salary no higher than the posted maximum salary.

    Job Location: Central Office, 105 West Capitol Avenue, Jefferson City, MO

    **This advertisement is to fill eight intern positions. **

    Why you’ll love this position:

    The engineering intern (structural designer) is responsible for making structural design computations, analysis, drawings, and sketches for the design of transportation related structures, such as routine bridges, retaining walls, and box culverts. Responsibilities are performed under moderate supervision.

    What you’ll do:

    • Uses engineering software, spreadsheets, or performs design computations to develop bridge design aids.
    • Develops spreadsheets for limited scope design tasks.
    • Reviews American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Load Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) code articles and compares with engineering policy guidance.
    • Reviews history files for data collection.
    • Assists the Bridge Management section with bridge load-rating, collecting, and inputting National Bridge Inventory data, working on special rating projects, and helping with bridge inspections (if desired).
    • Performs other responsibilities as required or assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Must have a great attitude and a strong desire to learn.

    • Must be a team player and willing to ask questions.
    • Must be enrolled in a relevant bachelor’s or post-bachelor’s degree program full-time (12+ credit hours); for engineering candidates, program must be ABET-accredited Must possess, and maintain, an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher out of 4.0.
    • Must have completed at least 30 credit hours. High school or other postsecondary program credits must be shown to be accepted by the current program through a degree transcript to apply.


    Special working conditions and job characteristics:

    • This is a wage, non-benefits eligible position, working no more than 1,039 hours per year.
    • The typical working hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
