Job SummarySEASONAL WATER PRODUCTION OPERATIONS WORKER Pay Rate: $18/hourThe City of Olathe is seeking a Seasonal Water Production Operations Worker to work in our award-winning Water Production facility. As a part of the City of Olathe’s Environmental Services Division, the Water Production team works hard around the clock to treat millions of gallons of water each day to ensure Olathe customers have safe, high-quality drinking water.
Water Production workers are a critical part of the daily operations of our Water Production facility. As a Seasonal Water Production Operations Worker, you’ll spend your time performing general plant facility maintenance, assisting operators with inspection, monitoring, and documentation of plant and remote facility operations, and assisting operators with collection and analysis of water samples for key water quality parameters.
Our facility is located in a peaceful, rural setting. You’ll work both indoors and outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
Work Schedule:
- Monday - Thursday, 6 AM - 4 PM
- This facility operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You may be required to work holidays or weekends depending on your schedule.
Seasonal positions last up to six months.

For more details, review the full job details and requirements below.Th Process Operations Worker is an entry level job that provides assistance and support to highly technical staff in water, wastewater, plant maintenance, or utilities. Work is often in a team setting along side experienced staff with some independent assignments following training and dependent on the specific area of assignment.
Key Responsibilities- Performs general maintenance such as cleaning and repairing of a variety of facilities and equipment.
- Assists other staff in the inspection, monitoring, and documentation of work and processes which may include use of a variety of data and systems such as reading and interpreting information provided by the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, meters, gauges, and other field instrumentation; performs visual checks of pumps, valves, motors and other equipment.
- Assists with water sample collection and performing a variety of process and regulatory water quality tests as part of a certified field laboratory; completes associated documentation for sample collection and analysis.
- Operates assigned vehicles and equipment such as fork-lifts and pallet jacks; assists with snow removal and other emergency operations including shoveling sidewalks.
- Adheres to safe work practices and procedures; demonstrates proper use of safety equipment, including a cartridge respirator, confined space entry and fall protection equipment; participates in required safety training.
Qualifications Experience: Requires strong organizational, teamwork, communication, and mechanical skills. Previous teamwork experience with similar responsibilities preferred. Must be able to communicate effectively and follow written and oral instructions. Must be at least 18 years old.
Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Specialized education in mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, mechanics, hydraulics, computer technology, laboratory, or applied science is preferred.
Licenses & Certifications: A valid driver's license and favorable driving record are required.
Environmental or Physical Demands: This position performs work inbothindoorandoutdoorenvironments and is subjectto adverse weather conditions and noise. The work requires routine and frequent sitting, walking, standing, twisting, bending, kneeling, and climbing and descending ladders and stairs. Employees in this role push, pull, and lift heavy objects and equipment including empty and charged fire hoses, plastic and metal 55-gallon drums. They operate a variety of hand tools and will use dollies or hand trucks to move pallets and drums. The position requires the ability to move between multiple locations, often multiple times in a day. Site locations may expose the individual to dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, various forms of precipitation, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, toxic agents, pathogenic substances, and other hazards. Some tasks are performed in areas where the ground is uneven and/or water soaked. Job functions in and around excavations, confined spaces, mechanized equipment, roadways, and bodies of water present the need for alertness and safety awareness. The work requires the ability to see, hear, and smell in order to detect problems and ensure the safety of employees and others in response to exposure to the hazards associated with this position.
