Notes to Candidate:About Department & Key ResponsibilitiesAustin Water is seeking a Civil or Environmental Engineering Student, or student with similar training, to join our Systems Planning Division. This team plans new utility infrastructure, uses hydraulic models for analysis of water, wastewater, reclaimed water, and water supply systems, and reviews infrastructure plans relating to growth in Austin. The purpose of this position is to perform duties to support Systems Planning’s team.
Tasks may include:
- Performing site visits to water and reclaimed water facilities to verify locations, elevations, and similar specifications of infrastructure. Includes identifying major appurtenances, interpreting record drawings and schematics, measuring elevations of sensors, correlating sensors to SCADA tags, and thoroughly documenting findings.
- Collecting data from hydrants within the water distribution system by taking pressure readings and performing fire flow tests. Includes utilizing GIS to locate hydrants, operating hydrants, and reading pressure gauges.
- Updating GIS databases based on as-built drawings, planning documents, and similar data sources.
- Creating maps and performing GIS analyses related to wastewater, water and reclaimed water.
- Assisting in hydraulic model building and calibration.
This summer internship is anticipated to start in late Summer 2025 and requires candidates to work a hybrid schedule, including reporting to our downtown Austin office for in-person days and traveling to additional sites across Austin.
Schedule:Monday-Friday, 8am - 5 pm with a flexible schedule.
Payrate:$21.63 per hour.
