    The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at California State University, Fullerton, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant/Associate position in speech-language pathology with an appointment to begin in Fall 2026.

    Position
    The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders provides instructional expertise from culturally and linguistically diverse faculty members in both clinical and academic curricula. We foster an inclusive environment in which students, staff, administrators, and faculty thrive. We strive to ensure all undergraduate and graduate students are developed with the tools and strategies they need to participate in meaningful and challenging learning opportunities, both during their academic programs and throughout their professional careers.

    Responsibilities of this position include (a) teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in speech-language pathology in their expertise area(s); (b) engaging in a systematic program of scholarly research; (c) actively participating in faculty governance that includes engaging in activities that support an equitable and inclusive environment for colleagues and students; (d) serving on department, college, and university committees; (e) developing and improving instructional curriculum; and (f) providing academic advisement to students. Specific courses that the successful candidate will be expected to teach include one or two of the following: COMD 577, Seminar in Child Language Disorders; COMD 564, Autism Spectrum Disorder in Speech-Language Pathology; COMD 576, Seminar in Augmentative and Alternative Communication; and COMD 590, Seminar: Speech and Hearing Services in Schools.

    CSUF faculty are committed instructors and scholars who bring research and creative discovery to students in classrooms, labs, and individually mentored projects. Candidates must contribute to our campus goal of fostering and exemplifying equity through their teaching, research, advising, and other activities. We encourage candidates to identify their strengths and experiences in these areas. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing scholarship/creative work commensurate with the requirements for tenure. The successful candidate also will be expected to contribute to and participate in the collegial life and development of the department, advise students, serve on committees, and participate in the broader university and disciplinary communities.

    Required Qualifications
    • Doctorate in communication sciences and disorders or related field with an emphasis in developmental language disorders. Strong candidates in other areas of related expertise will be considered. ABDs will be considered but must have a doctorate completed before the appointment date.
    • Earned or are eligible/expecting to receive ASHA CCC-SLP.
    • Eligibility for immediate California licensure in speech-language pathology.
    • Knowledge/experience needed to teach courses such as developmental language disorders, autism, AAC, or speech/hearing services in schools
    • Evidence of strong potential for research leading to the scholarly publications necessary for tenure.
    • For associate rank, appointments to Associate Professor requires a record consistent with promotion to Associate Professor in the department personnel guidelines, such as evidence of an established record of teaching and peer-reviewed publications.

    • Evidence of publication-ready manuscripts
    • Evidence of strong potential for teaching effectiveness.
    • Evidence of balancing excellent teaching, scholarship, and service
    • Experience of interacting successfully in an inclusive environment
    • Indicators of commitment to culturally/linguistically diverse students including first-generation college students
    • Collaboration experience with students, colleagues, or local community members

    The College and Department
    The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders in the College of Communications was established in Fall 2017. Prior to becoming a department, it was the Communicative Disorders Program in the Department of Human Communication Studies. The department has been continuously accredited by the Council on Academic Programs in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology since 1971. We offer a robust undergraduate program with approximately 500 majors, representing a diverse and dynamic student body. In 2019, our graduate program transitioned to a cohort model, admitting 30 students annually to foster collaboration and academic excellence.

    The department currently consists of seven tenure-track faculty members with a wide range of expertise, one full-time lecturer, and a full-time director who oversees the Speech and Hearing Clinic.

    Compensation
    The Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification salary range is $6,221 to $13,224 monthly (12 monthly payments per academic year). The anticipated hiring range for the Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification is $6,781 to $6,917 per month.

    The Associate Professor (Academic Year) classification salary range is $6,825 to $14,523 monthly (12 monthly payments per academic year).

    Salary offered is commensurate with experience and qualifications. In addition, the California Equal Pay Act prohibits employers from paying its employees less than those of the opposite sex and/or another race or ethnicity for substantially similar work ( https://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/california_equal_pay_act.htm ).

    Moving expenses, start-up funds, and a reduced teaching load for the first two years may be available.
