    ABOUT THE POSITION

    The Clark County Justice Court-Las Vegas Department is seeking qualified candidates for the Justice Court Assistant Court Administrator position. This position functions to assist with the day-to-day management of the department, supporting court operations, organizing and managing while administrating all divisional departments required for the effective function of the Las Vegas Justice Court. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring court-wide operations and support services meet judicial needs in providing fair and equal justice, while ensuring their compliance with Court policy and procedures, as well as all applicable laws and regulations.

    This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Education and Experience:

    Bachelor's Degree in Political Science, Criminal Justice, Business or Public Administration or a field related to the work AND five (5) years of full-time administrative/professional level experience in a public agency setting, three (3) years of which were in a management capacity. Possession of an advanced degree in appropriate field is desirable. Equivalent combination of formal education and appropriate related experience may be considered.

    Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    • Represents the Las Vegas Justice Court Administrator/Executive Officer in the daily operations, business and legislative interests for the court related to Court services.
    • Assists in aligning objectives, goals, priorities and deadlines for department management and reviews processes; assists the Court Administrator/Executive Officer by answering questions and making decisions regarding court services and operations.
    • Selects, hires, and disciplines subordinate employees as needed; assigns, reviews and evaluates the work of management staff.
    • Oversees Court operations including development to ensure provision of services and compliance with contracted programmatic obligations, applicable court rules, federal, state and county laws, regulations, and guidelines.
    • Provides consultation, assistance, and direction in resolving the most complex or unusual situations, ensures compliance with relevant policies and procedures and maintains monitoring controls for all program and operational areas of the Court.
    • Ensures the development and maintenance of systems, procedures, tracking mechanisms, reporting, and controls in program areas to ensure proper documentation of service delivery efforts, implementation of policy to improve operational efficiency, and accuracy of records.
    • Promotes good customer service and public relations; coordinates operations and promotes partnerships with County departments, outside agencies, citizen groups and the general public; represents the Court at public meetings or hearings; makes presentations before the Board of County Commissioners and coordinates with the Board of County Commissioners/County Manager on behalf of the Court Administrator/Court Executive Officer.
    • Assists in the development, recommendation, and implementation of goals, policy statements, planning, research and statistical analysis for the court; works with the Court Administrator, Chief Judge, standing committees and ad hoc committees on a wide range of special projects.
    • Assists with engagement of press releases, advisories, and social media posts that spotlight court decisions, initiatives, and public events, fields media inquiries, coordinates interviews with judges and administrators, and manages crisis-communication protocols, monitors news coverage, social media conversations, and public sentiment to anticipate questions and guides proactive messaging, develops and implements an annual communications plan—complete with digital campaigns, newsletters, and community outreach—to foster public understanding of court operations.
    • Assists with direct liaison functions, media and public relations for the Court; assists with coordinating interactions of court system with other branches of government, the Administrative Office of the Courts, public and private attorneys, and other interested parties; assists with the responsibility of producing informational reports that describe court business and operations.
    • Assists in the direction of staff support services for the court and resolves a wide range of issues regarding support services and non-judicial personnel.
    • Develops court wide education, training and development programs to promote the Leadership Council and Management Development Program.
    • Works to improve overall court performance, case flow management, efficiency and time timely disposition of all cases.
    • Produces accurate statistics, metrics and reports.
    • Oversees facilities - courtrooms and other physical spaces to ensure access for all people, and to provide adequate room for work and circulation. Manages, anticipates, plans, and prepares for facility and space needs by partnering with the Real Property Management department, facility planners and architects to assess actions required for the office and courtroom renovations, remodeling, or construction.
    • Identifies long-term priorities and the optimum methods by which the court should attempt to achieve those priorities based upon current realities and assumptions about the future of the Court.
    • Uses standard office equipment, including a computer, in the course of the work.
    • Drives a motor vehicle or arranges for transportation to various outlying areas and other off-site work locations in order to attend meetings and conduct other county business.


    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Mobility to work in a typical office setting, use standard office equipment; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Must be able to drive or arrange for transportation to various work sites throughout the County.
