Mohave County Public Works- Equipment Maintenance/Fleet Services Division is looking to fill an Automotive Mechanic Senior position. We are located at 3715 Sunshine Drive, Kingman, AZ. Our Mission To maintain and repair all County vehicles and equipment to OEM standards or better; to provide safe and reliable transportation to all Mohave County Divisions and personnel that are required to utilize the vehicles and/or equipment.
About us Fleet Services Division is a customer-centered service organization that provides a wide range of services including vehicle maintenance and equipment-related support services to all Mohave County departments. The division provides for all facets of vehicle/equipment diagnostics and repairs while providing a preventative maintenance program to assure dependability, availability, and safety of the fleet. Our warehouse provides parts for repairs to County vehicles/equipment and general use items in other County departments. Fuel dispensing operations at the County Service Center compound is available 24/7 for all County departments including after-hours roadside assistance program for all Mohave County departments .

Automotive Mechanic -> Salary Range 13 Steps 1-8 $21.09 - $25.93/hr.
Automotive Mechanic Senior -> Salary Range 15 Steps 1-6 $23.26 - $26.97/hr. - Monday - Friday - 6:00am-3:00pm
- Tools are to be provided and maintained at the employee's cost.
- Must pass drug screen post offer.
- Work may be subject to call-back, on-call status and overtime and irregular schedules including completion of work assignments on weekends and holidays.
Must be able to travel throughout different county locations. Working conditions would include but not limited to: - Work is also subject to traveling and exposure to varying weather conditions such as when a vehicle emergency occurs; may include traveling out-of-town to outlying or remote areas of Mohave County.
- Work outdoors performing moderate to strenuous manual labor in varying weather conditions, including strong winds, extreme heat to extreme cold temperatures while performing service/repair work.
- Work involves the use and safe operation of hand and power tools and equipment in cramped and contorted positions.
- Involves exposure to exhaust fumes, chemical fumes, acid, oil, grease, hazardous materials, and loud noises from equipment.
- This position requires an equal amount of time spent standing, walking, sitting, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, twisting, bending, climbing ladders, and confined spaces.
- The ability to frequently be able to lift 25lbs up to 50lbs or more while operating heavy equipment.
Essential Job Functions- Diagnoses, troubleshoots and repairs malfunctions on automotive vehicles and related equipment, such as emergency response equipment on patrol vehicles in accordance with service manuals.
- Road tests vehicles and operates equipment to assist in diagnosis and troubleshooting and to confirm repair.
- Diagnoses, maintains, repairs, rebuilds, and overhauls automotive components and equipment to include but not limited to engines, clutches, suspension systems, brakes, carburetors, electrical systems, emission and fuel systems, front end suspension, heating and air conditioning systems, automatic transmission/ transaxle and manual transmission/drive train, other engine and vehicle components.
- Installs, diagnoses, maintains, repairs or rebuilds emergency equipment on Sheriff Department related vehicles.
- Assists other mechanics in repairing of vehicles and equipment as required providing guidance and instruction.
- In absence of supervisor, provides functional supervision to associate personnel, determines priority and scheduling of work load & assignments and makes decisions on appropriate repair and service measures to take and evaluates service and repair work performed by subordinate personnel for adherence to established practices and procedures.
- Commutes to locations requiring emergency vehicle assistance due to malfunctions to diagnosis and perform repairs or install temporary measures.
- Performs automotive body work as required.
- May perform regularly scheduled and preventive maintenance on automotive vehicles to include but not limited to tune ups, changing oil and filters, lubricants, and checking condition of belts, tires and shocks in accordance with service manuals.
- Creates work orders to maintain daily work records of work done, material used and time spent.
- Creates, installs, and maintains simple electrical circuits.
- May fabricate parts, hoses and tools.
- Maintains an adequate supply of materials, equipment and tools required to fulfill work assignments.
- Cleans, maintains and services required equipment and tools used during performance of work assignments.
Minimum Qualifications Required Minimum Education, Experience, and Training: Automotive Services Technician: Entry Level experience work including. - High School diploma/GED (General Education Degree).
- Post high school technical training/school in an automotive or related field.
- Some apprentice mechanic and/or automotive shop experience or training.
- OR an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered in meeting the minimum qualifications.
Automotive Mechanic: Three-year experience working including. - High School Diploma/GED (General Education Degree).
- Three (3) years successful experience in the automotive maintenance and repair area as a Trades Helper II or when filled from outside, three (3) years’ experience as an Automotive Mechanic or related field involving the maintenance and repair of automotive vehicles and related equipment.
- OR any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered in meeting the minimum qualifications.
Automotive Mechanic Senior: Five-year experience work including. - High School Diploma/GED
- Five (5) years successful experience in the automotive maintenance and repair area as an Automotive Mechanic or when filled from outside, five (5) years of experience as an Automotive Mechanic or related field involving the maintenance and repair, rebuilding and overhauling of automotive vehicles and related equipment.
- OR an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered in meeting the minimum qualifications.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Methods, procedures, materials, equipment and tools used for the maintenance, repair and overhauling of automotive vehicles and related equipment such as the installation of emergency response equipment.
- Transmissions, clutches, suspension systems, brakes, carburetors, automotive hydraulics, electrical systems, drive lines, gas engine, steering, cooling and air conditioning system and other related vehicle components.
- Methods, procedures, materials, equipment and tools used in automotive body work.
- Performing all phases of automotive major repair including overhauls.
- Safe, effective operation and maintenance of hand and power tools and equipment used in vehicle and related equipment diagnosis, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair.
- Communicating and maintaining professionalism with the public, co-workers, and work contacts.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair, rebuild or overhaul mechanical and electrical problems.
- Safely and effectively service, maintain and repair, rebuild or overhaul assigned vehicles and equipment in accordance with standard repair, maintenance, operation, and safety procedures.
- Overhaul and rebuild engines and other related components of automotive vehicles and equipment.
- Provide instruction, training and direction to subordinate personnel and to prioritize, schedule, assign and evaluate work assignments performed by subordinate personnel.
- Perform automotive body work.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date chronological records and documentation.
- Interpret and apply established guidelines and procedures as provided in service manuals and related documentation.
- Follow and interpret written and oral instructions and data generated from diagnostic and troubleshooting equipment.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with associate personnel and personnel of other County departments.
- Fulfill physical requirements of work assignments to include moderate lifting of 20 - 50 pounds and performing work assignments with the use of tools and equipment in cramped and contorted positions.
